I'm having one of those moments when I realize I don't know the question to ask, much less the answer. I gotta acquire a rear sprocket for my RD350B project, but how many teeth (OK, I knew that question)?
The known values:
'75 RD350 primary gears
'76 RD400 transmission
520 chain
TDR250 rear hub, same sprocket as FZR400 (520)
The 400 countershaft is the same spline and size as my RZ and TZ, so I have a couple of front sprockets to play with, but I have to buy a rear. Is there a way to make an educated guess, or have I entered the realm of the experimental?

Turning Wrenches / Looking for a stripper
December 12, 2021, 04:43:02 PM
That got your attention! I talked myself into painting my RD350 cylinders before assembling the top end...and then looked at them closely. They're going to be awful to media blast with all the deep crevices between fins and such. Is there a better, perhaps chemical way to strip these things prior to painting?  :umm:

Turning Wrenches / What exhaust to buy?
December 09, 2021, 12:34:19 AM
The short version is: can anyone give me a reason NOT to order a set of Lomas street racers from Economy for my '75 RD350 (Ritter-massaged cylinders and heads, HPI iggy, 28mm PWKs and RD400 transmission)?
I know, I take forever to decide these things  :clownshoes:

Not mine:

Kinda beat up, so it's accuracy may be questionable. Neat collector's item, though.

Turning Wrenches / Central Tools timing gauge question
November 27, 2021, 08:42:59 PM
I'm looking at the Central Tools 6491 timing gauge set as sold by Economy; is it the diameter of the dial itself that allows it to be used on an RD engine that is in the frame?

Not mine:

What are these? Spent a bunch of time in the identification thread and still think maybe Bassani? I'm not looking to buy 'em, just want to know what they are.

Turning Wrenches / Source for this goofy O-ring?
November 12, 2021, 12:46:34 AM
I put the RD350 bottom end together (6 speeds present and everything turns freely and smoothly) and found my right side crankshaft O-ring 360-11526-00-00, the goofy one:

is crap. Economy is out of stock, CMS has a reproduction in the Netherlands and there are a few on eBay for $60-70. Couldn't find it at any retail site, HVC or FFTP. Anybody know of a better source than I've found?

But of course you did. Everyone knew but me...again. Norbo has parts for air-cooled RDs! Not a lot, but good-lookin' stuff:

Just got the email: Use sale code "scaryscooter" to get 15% off your order total!

Time to grab an HPI ignition or some other goodies. What a crazy cool site.

Does anyone have experience with or knowledge of these pipes?

I'm trying to find information, but there doesn't seem to be much out there.

General Chatter / Instead of working on bikes
October 16, 2021, 12:43:01 PM

My son wants to shoot a deer. I'm from a hunting family, but not one myself, so I'm here for technical and moral support. Sure is pretty!(Eastern Washington, near Pullman and the Snake River)

A friend sent this to me, and I think it's a great message. Applies to life, really, not just bikes.

Turning Wrenches / Tarozzi offset clip-ons
September 11, 2021, 09:26:28 PM
Short story long: I want to put a fat bar on my RD like Ed has on his R5, but the GSX-R upper clamp is super thin where I'd need to drill holes for risers, so I'm looking at clip-ons like a dumb 20-something (apologies, dumb 20-somethings out there). Fast from the Past has these offset Tarozzis that I kinda like better than their "riser" options:

Do any of you fine folks have experience with such a thing, or have a better solution? I guess I should say that super low 'bars aren't as kind to me as they once were, hence the fat bar idea.

Turning Wrenches / Starter motor repair
September 03, 2021, 09:07:28 AM
This almost belongs in the 4-stroke blasphemy section, but a friend needs to get his starter motor repaired or replaced:

Goki aftermarket starter on an ATC350X. Having owned and kick started an XR350R as a much younger man, I can appreciate what this little motor was up against! Does anyone know where I can send him for help with this conundrum?
