I have looked up instructions for removing the steering lock on a 73 Rd350 and they all say that it should slide right out withe the key inserted and pin lined up.
Well, after 40 plus years of being in there she is not willing to come out. Any suggestions? The lock turns and slides in and out a bit, but wont always engage the locked position.

I had to remove the cover on my 400 before the lock would come out.

Cover holds the barrel in, carefully pry out the pressed in rivet. Take your time and it'll come out without trashing the cover. The barrel will then come out, and you'll find a spring behind that.
Easy peasy!

What a timely topic. I just stripped my 73' RD250 to the frame and was wondering
the exact same thing. How to remove the steering lock to have the frame grit blasted
and powder coated.
Cheers, I'll give the rivet removal a try.

Yambits has a steering lock cover set you can buy. The rivet on mine got damaged on the way out so I reused the original cover and was able to use the Yambits rivet and washer and it's been working fine.
