Haus of Projects / RZ350 Cooling system upgrades

My 1984 RZ350 has a Koso DB-03R multimeter (tach/speedo, etc.), and a R6 radiator on it.
The cooling system was flushed, and changed from glycol and water to Engine Ice.
A R6 fan was installed on the radiator along with a thermal sensor w/switch to turn it on at about 200 degrees Fahrenheit. The sensor is too big to install inside of the radiator hoses per the instructions so, I tie-wrapped the sensor to the top of the radiator, having not figured out a better mounting method, yet. The switch is mounted under the left side of the tank, on top of an existing plastic tray, to the rear of the coil. The contacts will open to turn the fan off once the temperature drops by 15 degrees F.
I wired it directly to the battery using a 15amp inline fuse, to the thermal switch, and then to the fan so it will run with the ignition off.
A Koso iGear thermometer and engine head temp sensor was installed for added safety and, because it looks cool. (The DB-03R only has one input for monitoring temperature.)

Wiring
Looking at the back of the connectors, where the wires go into it, I labeled the pin locations from left-to-right, top-to-bottom, 1 through 6. The wiring for the Koso is as follows:
WHITE CONNECTOR
1 2 Grey/White (Oil Sensor)
3 Blue/White (Right Turn) 4
5 6
BLACK CONNECTOR
1 White/Black ((Neutral) 2
3 Orange/Black (Left Turn) 4
5 6 Black (Ground)
(Yamaha colors not shown above)
The yellow high beam indicator wire is outside of the connector and uses a male bullet connector.
The White/Red white with bullet connector that is outside of the connector is for the catalytic converter and is not used when expansion chambers are installed.
Red wire to +12VDC
Brown wire to switched 12VDC
Tachometer - Black to ground and White to Zeeltronic Green/Black
I crimped and soldered all connections and used heat shrink tubing as needed.
The speedometer motion-sensor reed switch is a little green glass unit that sits below the speed speedometer on the underside of the factory instrument cluster. The switch senses motion in order to extinguish the turn signals automatically. I did not remove the reed switch from the cluster, which simply means that I manually cancel the turn signals.

Connectors only come in the white color and you have to use an indelible marker to color one black.

Speedometer
A passive sensor is included, and it has to be no more than 1/8" from the magnets. If you have R6 calipers and adapter plates it's not a problem to mount. If you have stock calipers, the 10mm mounting bracket has to be modified (ground down) to fit in the space available or, use zip ties, hose clamps, whatever, and move it so it is in close proximity to the magnets. The optional BF640J06 active sensor is $35
Programmed to 120 MPH scale.
Water Temperature
The Koso includes a brass temperature sensor and extended wire but, you have to buy the hose adapter for it.

Tachometer
Removed tachometer cable and drive gear from transmission, and installed a billet block off kit.

The RPM pickup did not work when wired in series with the Dynatek dual coil. The black/red wire from my Zeeltronic CDI provides an output of one pulse per revolution. Program to 12,000 or 15,000 RPM scale as desired.
3rd Option - Wrap White wire (without any connector on it) around the spark plug wire at least 5 times and tape it with 3M 88 electrical tape
Oil Sensor (Injection)
The factory oil sensor should have 3 wires because it routes through the neutral switch. Mine only had 2 wires and I disconnected it to stop a false red indicator light.
Miscellaneous
I did not program shifting warnings or the enable it learn shifting.
