Have you looked at a Yamaha parts book yet to research? And keep in mind that parts for a EU RD250 may interchange with a EU RD400, but may or may NOT with a US RD400. You need to spend some time and do the research (and NOT on Ebay).  :twocents:

There's a few guys on the aircooledRDclub forum out of the UK that really know their 💩. If you can't figure it out by looking thru parts books you might be able to pose the question on that forum and chances are someone there will know.

Your best bet for help is to first state what you are trying to achieve.  Asking about differences doesn't help someone who has practical experience building engines help You.   :twocents:

On the E 1978 model in Europe, 250 and 400 transmission are the same parts.  Clutch is different because the gear is different.  Shafts, gears, selectors etc are all the same

Is that what you needed to know?

Or did you mean early model 250 and late model 400 or some other combo?

RD250C and 400C also had the same transmissions.

Yes that's what I came across. By the way are the C & E transmissions interchangeable? Some say they aren't......

Same parts, same part numbers according to the pdf copies I have on file.

All 400s have the same transmission AFAIK. I swapped them from one to another before - maybe I missed something but I don't think so.
