Which "new" bike?

Looking forward to selling my LC and buying a modern bike this winter.

Primary use will be out of town hooning.  Fast rural two-lane highways, twisties out to the coast, multi-day sport-touring (heavy on the sport).  Not much on the slab (boring!), not much around town (that's what my TDR's for), and no dirt or DS (got my plated 300 for that).

I've got a short list of bikes I'm considering.  Most will need to be a few years old to stay within a budget of < $8.5k (or whatever I can get for my LC (probably a bit less)).

What would you buy?

I love the look of the V7s, too. For the purpose you're describing, though, I would look at the Kawi Versys 650 ABS.

I hate I don't have the space or cash to go after your LC.

V7 is too retro and too slow.

Versys looks pretty good, and similar to the FJ09, which is on my list.

tracer 900?
fit some aggressive tires and have at it.

BlueR32

Yamaha Tracer 9 or 900. Hands down that triple motor is way more rowdy and fun than the Versys 650 twin.

If you sell the orange cat, you will get both instantly. especially pricing by the pound.  :dawg:

Tracer 9 is a good bike. I considered one recently, too, but it kind of didn't fit me. They're north of $14k now, too.

I think he's lighter than Simon at this point 😂

There's a good one on FBM local to me.

I def prefer the MT/FZ09 though.  790/890 DukeR is on my list too, but the MT09 is currently at the top, as I've a few friends suffering from KTM "reliability issues" with their 890 DukeRs.

690SMCR also, but 95mph cruising speed is a little slow for Eastern Oregon.

Tracer and MT09 have the same engine/trans/chassis.  Or am I missing something?

I would look at at Street or Speed Triple, depending on what fits best.

Or the Speed Twin 1200 is great fun too.  Also the MT10.

I have ridden the MT09 and a later Tracer 900. Nice bikes, but the suspension does let them down somewhat.  No problem if you are going to mod them.  The Triumphs are perfectly setup for me at least, out of the box with lovely suspension and brakes.

MT10 has a monster motor, lousy brakes though if you push on.

Striker1423

My brother bought a Triumph Speed Triple and its a sweet little bike. Not the most comfortable, but cool nonetheless.

different tunes and power delivery. so, yeah. its hands down the best recent 'swiss army knife' bike i've ridden.  Before that, was a street triple 675R.

Check out a Tuono. They're stupid fun.
