1977 Yamaha TZ 250 - $24750
This nicely restored TZ250 is one of approximately twenty Yamaha Lowboy chassis designed by Rob North and built by Kenny Roberts and Kel Carruthers. The motorcycle was purchased by the previous owner at one of the Barber Museum Festival swap meets. The body work was missing, so a fiberglass gas tank was replicated and fitted from an original alloy gas tank. This motorcycle has been fully restored and is ready to race at any AHRMA event or it would make a great addition to any race bike collection or museum.

Would the DS7 cases be authentic TZ stuff?

Yes.  TZ250 cases have DS7 prefix.  TZ350 cases have R5 prefix.  If you notice, the case #s are stamped on the top right rear of the cases, like an RD, and the mid left case # location the DS7/R5 use is left smooth.

Thanks for the info, Drew!

And you will find cases with R5 or DS7 prefix but no numbers.

Actually, no.
TZ cases are rubber mounted in front, and sold as such. The casting is the same between the DS7 and the TZ250, but the machining is different; the trained eye can usually spot modified cases on assembled motors.

The canter mains and lab seal location method is different too, and requires appropriately machined cases - many who use modified DS7/R5 cases just use DS7/RD cranks instead of TZ cranks; they are virtually the same otherwise.
