Hi All, I know this is more typically AC focused but looking for some RZ350 specific data regarding transmissions.  Questions up front and some more background down below:

What is the clutch hub transmission output shaft thread size?  This would be the shaft the clutch outer hub is bolted directly to with the bit nut with a locker tab on it.  Is it 18mm or 20mm?

What is the total length of the 2 transmission shafts?  Looking at roughly 10mm difference so need fairly accurate specs if possible.  Even total length of banshee shafts would be helpful as they should be same as RZ?

Trying to sort out what the heck this transmission I was told was RZ350 really is.  I went to assemble a motor with what I was told was a complete parts package but i'm suspicious the transmission included is not RZ.  Its close but I don't think its correct.  Potentially from a LC?  I noticed when installing the front sprocket drive side large bearing was pressed on the shaft the wrong way compared to the RZ cases.  Can't imagine someone would make that mistake.  After comparing to some other parts that already have homes I realized the hub nut size is different, the cut outs on the shaft ends look different and the total length of the 2 shafts is different.

Given how interchangeable banshee parts are I can't imagine the banshee and RZ350 clutch nut ID would have been different but that's just a guess...

Any help would be much appreciated.

Turning Wrenches / What are these instruments? RD?
September 14, 2021, 01:26:05 AM
Instruments came on a LC of mine.  Definitely not LC.  Assuming RD?  Haven't seen any in this brown color before.  Will be looking to sell em.

Turning Wrenches / BM Go Kart Engines
December 01, 2020, 02:34:18 AM
I picked up a pile of 2 stoke stuff and it came with a few vintage BM go Kart engines.  These are air cooled, direct drive 2-stroke engines.

I know nothing about them.  It looks like someone along the way had a good race setup as I have all sorts of engine internals spares that came with.

Does anyone have info on these engines or any clue if they have value somewhere?  I've got to get though this stuff eventually and this is the real wildcard.  They appear to be early 70's.

Turning Wrenches / Twin cable choke solution
September 14, 2020, 12:47:38 AM
Hi all,

I am looking for a choke solution for my RS project.

The TM34's had individual choke cables and I currently do not have a choke assembly for the end of the cables.  Any ideas out there?

Right now they are just bare cable ends.

Hello!

rewiring a RZ350 stator. plug  The original plug was missing so i'm not sure which of the three stator phases is supposed to go to which of the leads on the plug.

Can anyone advise?  Square plug, 3 white and 1 blue wire.  Does it matter which white wire ends up linked?

Generally I would think similar color so doesn't matter but i'm not positive on the operation of the 3 phase stator.

Turning Wrenches / 'Custom' porting
June 10, 2020, 05:09:44 PM
I know the story but for fun I figured I would see if there are any guesses what is going on here?

This is the first time I have seen this 'custom' modification to a cylinder!  Any one else see this before?

Show Off / Aprilia RS250 Build
March 27, 2020, 04:21:27 PM
This one has been on the burner for a while but I finally ordered in the Tyga bodywork.

It will not be as high end as Spooner's bike but should be lots of fun.

I find it just slightly larger than the 2MA TZR250 but still a very small motorcycle.  I was expecting somethin closer to a full size 600 so I was pleasantly surprised.

As this sits with tank and most of the bits on it (all suspension, bodywork, wheels with tires, discs etc) it weighs in at 250 lbs so should be solid finish below 280.  There are a number of items that could be better but I would rather ride than worry about those last few pounds that really make no difference on the street.

First iteration will be a stock banshee top end and likely go for straight white with a few decals.  Once kinks are worked out will probably amp up to a 421 and a different paint scheme next winter.

Just a few early Pics here

Turning Wrenches / custom-ish cables
March 17, 2020, 01:18:04 PM
I've got a couple projects that require cables.  Both need splitters.

I could use a standard RD cable but I would prefer a more compact splitter and do not need the oil pump line.

THe 2nd project i've already got the carb to splitter cables.

What options are out there for semi-custom cables or cable bits?

Hello!

Looking for an analog electronic speedo setup for use in place of a mechanical unit of no use with upgraded front suspension on a vintage bike.

Are there any options out there?  How big a pain is it to make own setup with magnets and sensor?

Turning Wrenches / Daytona VM30 specs
February 18, 2020, 09:22:06 AM
On the old forum I was given some assistance on jetting the VM30s for a Daytona 400 with a ported and piped (DGs) motor with pods.  We are around 3000ft elevation.  Looking for a starting point if anyone remembers.

Where is the best place for the VM30 these days as well?

Thanks!

Turning Wrenches / Oil Injection Nipples

Hello!

I am after a single oil injection nipple that goes into the carb body.

Where can these be purchased or does anyone have a spare?

Thanks!

HI All,

Anyone have experience with the Jawa 350?  Reviews?

What are values like compared to a RD?

Turning Wrenches / RD Carb related Q
August 25, 2019, 04:05:03 PM
Hi all,

I bought a pair of carbs off a member here and had a couple questions.

See the picture in link below.
https://drive.google.com/file/d/17gZR6usQaBvjTTfEJOzyLcYuwjMZwro1/view?usp=sharing

I mixed up the float bowls and wondering if they are carb specific.  The one on right has a small 'T' on the base of the carb.  Do I have them on the correct sides?

One carb appears to be missing the brass tube that sits to the left of the pilot.  Is this a necessary part I need to replace?

Thanks for the help!

Bit of an odd ball question here but...

I'm short a clutch actuator for the side cover for my RD350LC.  Having a tough time finding one.

The RD400 uses a similar mechanism.  Does anyone know if I can retrofit the RD400 part to the RD350LC cover?

Thanks!

Turning Wrenches / RD350 28mm carbs on RD350LC
June 17, 2019, 07:52:31 PM
Hi All,

After having difficulty finding hte stock 26mm LC carbs I am going with the AC 28mm which are much more readily available.

Curious on a starting point for jetting.  The RZ and LC run well over 200 jets without the PJ.  The AC carbs are 140 mains stock.  Both engines are the same displacement.

Is there a reason for this large gap in jetting?  Both are Mikuni carbs.

Trying to figure out the 'why' on this one.

Thanks!

Hi Guys,

I purchased a RD400 seal kit labelled as OEM quality with OEM part numbers on the seals.  I knew they were not genuine OEM but sold as OEM quality.

The crank seals do not have castleation or outer ridges to seat the seals and are just standard seals as far as I can tell.

They all fit acceptably but I feel this is misrepresenting being sold as OEM quality without the above features.

The seller claims no one else has had a problem with the seals.  Being sold as RD350/400 kit.  The 400 seals definitely have castleation and ridges on the seals.

Am I crazy here?
Thoughts?

First time working on one of the 400's.

Architecture looks similar to the watercooled versions.

Can someone please confirm the cases have to be split in order to replace the crank seals?

Thanks!

Turning Wrenches / 1977 RD400 Fender Compatability
April 17, 2019, 11:21:02 AM
Hi All,

Rear fender on this 77 400 is dented and I would like to replace it.  Are there other models with an interchangeable rear fender?  Looks like the 76-78 250 will also work.  How about the XS650?

Same questions on the front although I may keep it on there.

The rear chrome subframe is showing its age so I may replace as well.
