The schedule for next season hasn't been announced yet but riders are signing new deals and switching teams.

The biggest news is Jonathan Rea moving to Yamaha from Kawasaki where he won 6 consecutive championships (2015-20).
Toprak has switched from Yamaha to BMW.
And Sam Lowes has moved from Moto2 to the Marc VDS Ducati team.

I've seen 4-stroke Messerschmitts before but I don't believe I've ever seen a 2-stroke powered one.

General Chatter / Wartburg

Saw this car a few weeks ago at the annual El Segundo Main Street Car Show. I've seen it a few other times as well but forgot to post photos here. It's a 1959 Wartburg 311 convertible from East Germany. Powered by a 901cc 3-cylinder 2-stroke.

Interesting. I had not heard of Yetman before, so this listing led me to do some reading.
https://www.tz350.net/yetman.htm
The installed engine looks to be a 200 from a '71 CS3B, but the seller mentions 180cc

This dude's high! $12.5K for a bike that's been in storage for years and doesn't run? The last tag on the plate is from '84. And lots of surface rust from being near the beach.

Claimed to be Steve Baker's bike, but the seller lacks any documentation or real proof of provenance, just a supposed phone call with Steve and a mention that the paint job is the same as his old bike.

Came across this while browsing CL and thought someone missing one or doing a restoration may be interested. Look to be in fairly good shape.

Turning Wrenches / TZR250 3XV fuel tank question
June 30, 2023, 10:24:01 PM
Can the fuel cap assembly be removed by taking out the 7 bolts (#10 & #11) with the cap locked, or does the cap need to be unlocked?
My lock will not open and I couldn't get the cap to come loose even with the small bolts all removed.

Turning Wrenches / Front brake master question
June 26, 2023, 12:01:13 PM
Has anyone here worked on a front brake master similar to this one from my TZR250 3XV?

I got it all cleaned up and rebuilt and then realized I had not removed the elbow tube for the reservoir. I want to make sure there's no debris in there and that the tiny bleed hole is clear. Air blows through it OK so the larger fill hole is clear.

I removed the rubber boot and the snap ring but the plastic elbow fitting won't budge, even with some pulling and twisting back and forth. I was afraid of breaking it. Is it just a friction fit into the body? I know there's an O-ring under it. TIA

Haus of Projects / Yamaha TZR250 refresh
June 23, 2023, 12:41:15 PM
I let my TZR250 sit for way too long (we're talking years), so I'm currently going through the recommissioning process...
The "To Do List" is quite long:
  • Clean & rebuild carbs
  • Replace fuel hoses
  • Replace in-line fuel filter
  • Add in-line manual fuel shut-off?
  • Delete carb de-icing circuit
  • Rebuild petcock
  • Flush fuel tank
  • Replace bad temp sending unit
  • Flush cooling system and check
  • Change trans oil
  • Check & replace spark plugs
  • Replace chain
  • Replace front & rear tires
  • Rebuild rear brake master & caliper
  • Rebuild front brake master & calipers
  • Replace battery
  • Clean & detail

Carbs have been thoroughly cleaned in the ultrasonic and rebuilt with all new brass.

Replaced all fuel hoses.
Bypassed the carburetor de-icing circuit.

Turning Wrenches / TZR250 3XV rear sprocket
June 17, 2023, 01:55:57 PM
Anyone have a part number for a compatible aftermarket rear sprocket?
OEM part is 3XV-25437-40-00 (37T & 520)

I've read that one from a TZ250 V-twin can be made to fit but requires drilling the mount holes out to 10mm. I'd rather have a bolt-on that doesn't require modification, if possible.

I have the front figured out. Seems to be the same as some of the WR models. And the chain is a 520-110L.
