Found it, lol. I remember where it flew off to, spent some time in that dirty part of the garage and there she blows. Here's a pix of the spring I was referring to, you can barely see it hiding.

A pen spring fits almost perfectly but is too short. Found some springs on amazon that might work with some trial and error, will try that route.
In regard to rekeying, the lock/key for the tank looks original. The ignition key will not fit the tank lock as the main part of the keys, if it was blank, is cut opposite of one another. This leads me to believe that the ignition is from a different bike. Which makes sense because one gauge was a xs gauge. Oh well.

In an attempt to rekey the tank to match the ignition, which by the way did not work. The spring that causes the lock to spring back once key is turned ended up somewhere in my garage as it flew off. Does anyone know where to get one of these without buying an entire assembly? Rd ones are expensive as heck, maybe another path?
Thx.

Unseasonable weather here in Chicago as it's been in the high 60's all week, but tomorrow the bottom starts to drop out. Took the ol girl out for a last cruise, running too rich, but didn't want to remove carbs, again, so I lived with it for a few months. Going to remove carb for the winter, jet down and drain tank. Now, last year I sprayed the inside of the tank with wd-40 and that seemed to work pretty well, but if anyone has any better ideas, I'm all ears.

Thanks again everyone for helping me get this back on the road, especially Mark. It was super fun and I learned tons.

When I bought my 350 a year ago, I thought I would just fix it up some, done. Uhhh, nope. One thing led to another, next thing I know I have a cafe racer, so to speak, I guess. I did the same and searched for hours, looking for inspiration in regard to paint, etc. I learned so much from this board as I had no clue wtf I was doing. I wish I would have done what you are about to do, document the build in one place, oh well.
Besides the yellow race bike, I like the green bike best. Blue is my favorite color, but that seat is too bulbous, same with the pipes. But that's my opinion which doesn't mean jack shat. :)
Have fun!

I had a 1988 saab spg with a plethora a mods. Never had to remove the head, ran around 18psi of boost. Water injection, bigger turbo and every possible go-fast add-on one could install. I ran the piss out of that car for 15 years, sold it with over 280k. It was not a saab story.

So HPI uses a keyway, vape does not unless you go with HVCcycles keyway? What is HPI set at, timing wise as hvc is set at what, 1.8-2.0?

They said the same thing to me, but also gave me the option of them being custom built for I think, 100 bucks and hour. No thx.

Thats the common theme in regard to these sellers on FB. Pipes look great, but none seem to fit right.

Quote from: racerclam on August 25, 2023, 07:34:11 PMWhat care are you thinking of putting round slides on? Back in the 1970s I thought about putting eight 44mm on a small block chevy. Never did it though , I just stuck with a tunnel ram and two 600cfm hollys. The Mikuni's would work better than four webers since each carb could be calibrated for each cylinder rather than done in pairs by changing air bleeds to meet each cylinders needs . Plus a manifold with a plenum works better anyway , with a broader power band.

Rich

Reminds me of when I had a modified Datsun 510 with dual side drafts. Thought that was the ticket! Looked amazing, sounded amazing. I then had to get it smogged, found a stock manifold and carb. Put that on to pass visual, f-ing car ran so much better and faster. Sold that other crap.
