In the fall of 2022, after a great deliberation me & my brother went to have a see on couple Gammas offered on sale about 100 miles from my abode. Looking at the pictures, I wasn't particularly drawn to either one of them condition-wise (but hey it's still a unicorn - Gamma!!!). I figured with cold season and nothing better to do, there's no harm in checking out the bike and test waters plus you don't get to see these everyday and I've never seen one in person. The nicer ones that once in a while come for sale as we all know go for a fortune so this I suppose was an opportunity to fiddle around and build as-you-go (budget permitting).

I confess to be a Yamaha guy all my life but this thing made me convert I should say. There's the RD/RZ 500 but the Gamma ....... is it's own league as many say so I'm on the journey to find out myself.

So there they were two of them. First one required a full motor rebuild, in non-running state though it did come with a TON of parts but for a guy with limited skill, I backed out right away. I still to this day kick myself and will continue to do so until I get my hands on another.

The second, an interesting one (you'll know soon the why part), was something we zeroed on. Plan was - my brother would buy it and I'll be working to get it fixed. With a R1 and a Warrior XV1700 between us it would be more of a 'just for grins' addition. And here it is, ...

In fall of last year, after about near completion of semi-restoring my brother's Suzuki RG500 Gamma (that's a topic for another day) I was already looking for yet another project.

There's something about being around motorcycles even if means not riding'em and killing time in garage more so in winters makes me calm. Yea, that's my drug of choice!!!

Being a Yamaha fan-boi (always had a special place for Yammies) I was looking for 2-strokers ONLY which means the TZ/RZ/RD projects. The Gamma project was so addicting that although I'm a guy of limited skill-set and worked with it's previous owner to get it going I was longing to get one myself (and kick myself EVERYDAY for I "almost" got one, but I needed a cage. You see the guy was selling his collection - 14 at one point with 2 or 3 Gammas). Maybe someday a RG500 or TZ750 will be on cards.

I started my moto-journey with lil 100cc 2-strokers and eventually graduated to a liter bike and onto a v-twin which are good in their own right but actually a BIG BUT ... lack the soul and smell (know what I mean). AND I've been in my younger years a fan of Wayne Rainey, Kevin Schwantz, King Kenny, Barry Sheene, Wayne Gardener ... who isn't. Someday I would like to shake hands with these legends sans Barry (RIP).

So for better or worse, I ended up with a basket case with an understanding that it's missing few parts and needs - paint job and motor work. Note that I've never seen a RZ350 before in person just all the hearsay.

So here it is ...

Turning Wrenches / Help - RZ350 Headlight Install
January 18, 2024, 01:55:25 PM
Hi Folks! I'm now onto the headlight installation (while still waiting on motor and paint job).

So to put it together, I got in order from start:
Headlight Rim -> Retaining Rim -> Lens -> Bulb -> Bulb Setting Plate -> Socket Cover just as the parts diagram attached below and got the Spring set (part# 10) in place as well. So far so good.

My issue is, however, the lens does not align itself inline with the Headlight Rim (part# 2 and 4 respectively) even after tightening/loosening the Rim adjuster Screw (part# 7) which goes on 10 and 5 o'clock positions.

Highly appreciate any inputs. Thanks!

Turning Wrenches / Help on these RZ350 parts!
December 27, 2023, 04:16:22 PM
Howdy guys!

I recently got a basket case that I'm putting together and came across few parts that I have tried hard to reference them from parts diagram but no success. so here it is if someone knowledge can pitch in ...

1. Couple of asymmetrical metal mounts with HIGH and LOW written on each. Where do these go? Or are they even from it?

2. Right side switch seems to be a placeholder for a self-starter which of course never came for the RZ,  so is there a plug that goes in there?

Turning Wrenches / RZ350 Carburetor help!
December 20, 2023, 03:59:11 PM
Howdy folks!

So I have a basket case 1985 Yamaha RZ350 that I'm trying to put together. Motor is being handled by a specialist but rest is where I'm working on (I'll post some pictures in near future).

Question - On the standard Mikuni 26mmm carbs, I see two bronze nozzle/connectors that I believe are for oil. Unfortunately, both are broken. So question is - a. How to remove them? AND b. What would be the replacement part for it?

FWIW, I see some for sale but don't have a measurement. One example is - https://www.ebay.com/itm/275100482663

See the highlighted parts in the picture.

Thanks in advance!
