Sort of crazy money for a not-stock 400. (Repainted in the wrong shade of red.) I mean it's clean but holy smokes!

1976 Yamaha RD400C
https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1976-yamaha-rd400c-10/
Sold for $11,250 on 5/5/24 (that's $11,812 with buyer's fee, and then there's any shipping costs on top of that)

MotorSport.com: THE RIDER MAKING A BREAKTHROUGH TO AWAKEN MOTOGP'S "SLEEPING GIANT"

Pretty cool stats:
-- For the first time since 2006, an American rider leads the standings in a grand prix class of the MotoGP world championship.
-- 3 podiums in a row, the first rider to do that in any GP class since Nicky Hayden in 2006.
-- And coincidentally, Roberts currently has 69 points.

Looking forward to what he can do at Le Mans! :patriot:

That Holden body shape looks to be derived from a Vega. I always wanted a Cosworth Vega back in the day but it would have been a never-ending series of engine failures from what I remember reading at the time. IIRC it had Aluminum block that turned out to be better in theory than application for production cars?
A friend of mine had a Cosworth Vega in high school. Pretty rare car for a 17-year-old to be ripping around So Cal in.

I've heard that road paving has been going on at the Dragon and daily closures are to be expected for almost a month. Hopefully the group will be able to work around this. And new pavement will be nice and smooth but greasy for a while

Ken, your videos had me all fired up to get one of those cool Yamahauler neon signs from Modern Artifacts for my garage

...until I found out they go for $1200.

I met the owner of this '35 truck when I was out on my neighborhood walk about a year ago and he was working on it in his driveway. It's a Factory Five kit that he built in his garage. He decided to paint it the same color as his E46 M3 because he likes the color so much.

I finally made it out to the Donut Derelicts weekly Saturday meet in Huntington Beach. I don't normally go because it's so early in the morning. They start rolling in a little after 5:00am to get parking spots and it's over by 8:00am.

I didn't really decide to commit to going until late on Friday night, so I went bed around 12:30am and was up at 5:00. Ugh. Did a quick wipe down on the trusty old 125 and took off for the show. I was there to grab a parking spot at 5:45.

Parked right in front with the other bikes and then went inside to get some delicious donuts and a big coffee. :homer: (I really needed the coffee!)

I was parked next to this nice Guzzi

A group of 5 guys rode into together on Whizzers.

And I ran into my friend Bill with the RD125 that I had spotted last weekend in Seal Beach.

Interesting. Looks like someone has made some changes to it over the years.
The tank and front fender appear to be from a RD400F.
The front end looks like it's from a '76-77 model. (You can measure to be sure but those look like 34mm forks, not the 35mm used on the F/G models).
The front wheel is from a '76-77 model and the rear wheel looks like it's from a '78 model.
The brake rotors are '76-78 versions.
The front and rear brake calipers are pre-79. And the one on the rear looks like it was a front one at one point in time based on the badge clocking.
The swingarm is also not from a F or G model, but a '76-78 RD400.
The kickstart lever is from a '76-78 model.
The round Yamaha badge on the left engine cover is not from a RD400 but a RD250/RD350.

Kazakhstan GP postponed until later in the year due to flooding in the country.

Side covers - are the same as the US and CAN RD400F, just different decals.
Tool Kit - a correct OEM tool kit will be hard to find and very expensive. If you just want a similar universal kit you can get one from Economy Cycle (who sponsors this site) https://www.economycycle.com/product-category/tools-hardware/tool-kits/  Yambits in the UK also sells tool kits. https://yambits.co.uk/tool_kits_parts_for_yamaha_rd400g.html
Kick start Lever - reproduction levers are available from several sources. https://yambits.co.uk/rd400g-kickstart-lever-p-37969.html  The same part was used on the US & CAN RD400F. There's a used on on eBay right now: https://www.ebay.com/itm/176355883141

Here's what yours looked like when new.

There was one for sale here locally a few years ago. Kind of unusual to see a Canadian bike for sale in Southern California.

:'( Bummer Tim, not good news. On the positive side, now you have a chance to rebuild it better like you always do.

Welcome  and congrats on the new bike. Post up some photos!
The 400G is a Canadian spec bike, and is basically the same as the Canadian F model (only the graphics are different if I recall correctly). It should not have a points ignition because the RD400F/G in Canada came from the factory with CDI.
Sorry, I can't help you with a service manual as that model is one of the few I don't have.

3J7- is correct for an F or G mode1. Both were painted New Pearl White, but graphics differ between the years.
F model frame/engine numbers start with 3J7-000101, and G models begin at 3J7-020101
Cylinder head is 1-piece and a 3J7 part
Carburetors and cylinders are 2R9 parts
Wheels and brake calipers are 2V0 parts
