Thanks for this.

General Chatter / Gen-U-Ine NGK…

I ordered a new set of plugs for the R5, fully aware that there may be counterfeit plugs out there.

I browsed EBay, saw some that looked very underpriced, so I passed.  I chose a middle of the road price ($21 a pair to the door) from a large seller.

Interestingly, they arrived with this 'scan me' label on them.  I actually did scan it, and it took me to the sellers site with a claim that they a legitimate NGK seller blah blah blah.

Anyone get caught up with fakes, and know how to spot them?

Turning Wrenches / Re: Did I fry my Dyna?

Hmmm, it's a small sealed "Powersports" battery, I have to take it out to examine exactly what it is.  I just measured it at 12.77 after being off the charger for a few days but will troubleshoot further with my meter later today...

Turning Wrenches / Did I fry my Dyna?
November 19, 2023, 09:37:06 AM
I found my key in the "on" position and the bike with a dead battery.

The battery took a charge, but we have no start.  My Irridiums are now black and oily, but I do see spark.

Awaiting new BR8EIX's in the mail.

Question is can/do Dynas burn out when left powered on?

Thank goodness you are ok.  What was the other drivers reaction?

It's almost funny.

This week I got a box of live worms from Idaho -> NJ in two days, USPS.  Worms might not have enjoyed that circuitous route.

We also had a glorious weekend in NJ.  I had the whole family down, and my five year old granddaughter asked to take a ride.  She's pretty fearless.
I gave her the choice:  Fast bike or Slow bike.  She chose the slow bike.  We had a blast zipping around town together on the 200.

Perhaps try rotating in heavy Barnett springs, first three then six if needed?

Turning Wrenches / Re: Aluminum swing arm for RD400F
October 19, 2023, 09:18:23 AM
Not to beat a dead topic, but expanding on what Bitzz said.  Regarding a non-F 400 DG swinger, I've had one on my 350 for years.
Details you need to know:
- a 400 DG is 2" longer over stock from a 350.
- it's almost plug and play.
- a kind member here machined a cool extender for the rear fender, so it arches properly.
- the longer geometry hasn't affected handling that I can tell, other than make me work a bit more throttle for wheelies.
- a machinist friend made me several of the right side bushings needed to fit the 350 axle in the 400 swingarm slot.  I thought it may be a wear item but in years, it's never needed replacement SO if anyone wants to mate a 400 swingarm to their 350, I could provide the needed bushing.  The fender extension would still need to be dealt with.

LMK.

They look great, perform well.  Just not available as you've found out.  Keep an eye out on EBay and here, perhaps a pair may come up.  Mine are from Doug's (RIP) last run.
To buy new pipes, you have a few options.  Off the top of my head
- DG (meh)
- HVC (meh, apparently hard to tune for from threads here)
- Lomas (plenty on here about JL pipes)
- Spec II (great pipes and a long wait time)
- Higspeed
- Other Japanese builders iirc.

Good luck.  Do your searches.

Google Photos reminded me today that it's been 16 years since I started tearing down the R5 I rescued from a basement.   It's still with me.

That's beautiful.  I've always been attracted to the engineering marvel of specials...

Is that silver 350 a Canadian color, or repaint.  I like it.
