Turning Wrenches / Spec 2 Opinions
August 02, 2019, 09:50:26 PM
So I'm trying build a psycho R5. I bought Economan's stg2 RD350 Supertune top end. Now I'm trying to decide on pipes. I kinda like the looks of the "street" style Spec2s but from all reports the external stinger style pipes seem to have more performance.

How much would the street Spec2s hold me back on a psycho RD?

Turning Wrenches / R5 Autopsy

If you missed the second part of my "Coil Question" thread here's a quick synopsis.
My bike was losing power I ordered the Econ Cycles OEM style coils. Second ride after about 4-5miles it died. I noticed an airgap on my clear oil injector lines. Filled the tank with 32:1 or better. After a very careful easy ride home just before my driveway it died again. A couple days later I started it again and verified the oil pump wasn't pumping.

All things seem to point to an oil seizure followed by a lean seizure, right?

One thing I neglected to mention was that my fuel tank was full of a light mixture due to replacing the oil injector lines. Say 100:1 or less.

So today I took off the cylinders and the results don't look like what I've seen from seizures. I am no expert of course. What do you guys think?

Turning Wrenches / FPP Pipes
June 05, 2019, 02:34:03 PM
Looking at collecting parts for an RD project and I come across a bike with FPPs.
I see i8d8tr has them posted in the pipe thread. There isn't any info on what kind of power they make.
Any opinions?

Turning Wrenches / Coil question
May 29, 2019, 09:19:51 PM
Seems the old girl (71' R5) is losing power. Last summer she ran better on 145 mains, I tried 150s and it ran the same. I went through the ignition, checked points, timing etc.

Two things I've noticed. When shooting the right cylinder with a timing gun it seems like it wasn't firing as consistently as the left...? Not sure if that's possible but I tried again when the bike is cold and it seemed better. As I type this I'm remembering that the points were absolutely not arcing at all, which I'm not sure I've ever seen perfect points like that. Not sure what that says.
The other thing is with fresh plugs it runs great.

So I'm looking at the coils, particularly the right side. Do coils get weak with age when hot? Or are they a worky, no worky type deal?

Thanks for any help

The 4-Stroke Blasphemy Forum / Guzzi Blues

This winter I'm re-habbing a 77 Guzzi t3. Last winter I put in a bunch of work on my R5. I have to say the old two stroke was much more rewarding to work on. The old pasta cycle is fighting me a bit.....
Next winter I'm thinking an RD is in my future.
