Title: "Dummy Autolube tank" for RD350/A/B
Post by: Dvsrd on August 30, 2022, 04:09:47 AM
In the FB Aircooled RD group, there is a member that makes 3D printed parts, among them new RH. side covers. He is now making me a mirror image cover for the LH side, so I can remove the Autolube tank, and replace it with this new cover. Basically keeping a stock appearance while saving a bit of weight.
I will have to come up with mounting brackets like those in the RH side, and the plan is to make the upper hooks part of my home made alloy battery box, avoiding any welding. The bottom bracket is something I will have to figure out as well.
Of course, having both covers replicated in CF would be the optimal overkill...... Together with an alloy fuel tank, that is ...

I cut the back off an old oil tank and left the mount brackets on to use as a dummy for the oem look.

Yes, I considered that, but I have no extra tank to "sacrifice"
Will post pics of this "mirror image" cover in about a months time, when I get back home from this offshore stint.

ooh, that's nice, I just cut the back off, all the mount tabs are still on the front to hold it on.

Do you have a pic of the complete bike? I see a 250/350 engine, and a 75 or older frame. What else?
