Got it done!

Thanks again.

Thank you! I'll try it out. I've got a can of turpentine and some assorted s.s. and brass bristle brushes laying around. I'm guessing the turpentine might work similarly  :umm:

Attached is a larger image from another angle.

It looks like either the o ring disintegrated or liquid gasket was used on the old assembly. What's the best/safest way to clean it off or is it ok to go ahead and install the new one?

It looks like the gray rtv stuff. I'm guessing brake cleaner and plastic scraper will work, but am not sure what else is behind/around it that brake cleaner might mess up.

Will do! Thanks again and much appreciated!

Do I need to drain the transmission fluid out before replacing the seal. I'm guessing I would if I were to replace the shift shaft seal and neutral switch as well.

Thanks for the heads up! Is the torque range on that 50-60 ft-lbs? I'm looking in my "manual" and it says 50-60 for a 30mm nut. 32 isn't listed on their chart.

Ah. I'm looking at it now and the nut isn't tight at all. IF that locking washer wasn't in place, I could twist it off easily with my fingers.

Awesome! Thanks again.

I went for a longer ride than usual a few days ago and trans oil blew all over my rear tire. It was pretty sketchy and The fluid is coming from the area around the sprocket.  I bought all of the seals and etc from economy so I'm thinking I'll replace most if not all of them.

Does anyone know the size of the nut for the countershaft sprocket? I'm going to buy a socket for it. The is for a 73 RD 350.

Also, anyone have a good option for a seal puller? I've looked at a few types/methods and any insight would be great.

I'm guessing I should also lube all the new seals with multi purpose grease?

Thanks!

General Chatter / Re: NGK Plugs

Luckily I found qty 14 B8HS plugs from two different store locations:) I guess I'm good for a little while. I have a 5 year old set of BR8HIX plugs that I've never used due to tuning/carb issues. Maybe I'll give them a go. I'm glad I saw this thread....thanks again!

Bummer. I just fouled my plugs and couldn't find any 5510's locally. Will BR8HS work for the RD350?

Turning Wrenches / Re: Rd350 speedometers

Thanks for the heads up. I recently found a tach for cheap that looked like the 2nd image. I installed it and it works fine. I might take a chance on a "cheaper" speedometer that also looks like the 2nd photo. Mine are oem and look like the speedo in the first image. If I pull the trigger, I'll let everyone know if it fits;)

Turning Wrenches / Rd350 speedometers

I found a few rd350 speedometers for sale, but there appears to be 2 different types that fit the same 73-75 rd. The cable connections and etc. appear to be in the same format, but the bottoms their cases are shaped differently.

Both my speedo and tach protrude outward at the base and around the cable connection. Others I've seen that are listed for the same bike are entirely flat across the bottom.

Are both types interchangeable. It seems like they are, but figured I would check.

I saw this one the other day. Really nice RD!

Thanks! I think I'll do that and take some fluid out. I only rode the bike a few blocks in the neighborhood. The case gaskets/seals are pretty new and that was my main concern. I'd rather not have to redo those.

Next time I'll start at a liter and slowly fill it until it reaches the right level;), then start the bike and let it circulate through. Add some more fluid if needed, then ride out.
