Title: vapor blasting carbs
Post by: lawnboy on April 03, 2024, 09:01:54 PM
I wanna get the shitty black chipped/flaking paint off some carbs. Is vapor blasting acceptable? What's the best way to get em clean enough to reassemble after?

I used a soda blaster from Harbor freight , very gentle on aluminum.

Vapor or glass bead blasting and ultrasonic cleaning afterwards.

I have  a soda blaster from Princess Auto, the Canadian version of HF, and it works amazing. Just makes a bit of a mess in the driveway when I use it but it is easy to clean up.

Same one I've been using for years on all kinds of parts...from carbs to frames to cylinders to...just about anything. Only tool I have bought from harbor freight that has worked more than a couple times without breaking.

I'm planning to take the motor to the blaster soon he did great work on my last motor, and thought I'd bring the carbs along. I do have access to an ultrasonic tho. I also have a small portable blaster set up so may go get some soda. Thanks for the input guy.

I wonder how soaking in MEK might do for them?  Soda blast will make them look like they have been vapor honed.
