He sent another pipe. I set it in place and it looks like it will fit. When I get it mounted, I'll take a photo or two and share it.

It's really too bad that I had to file a claim with PayPal to get some action from him. It's a really good looking pipe and the cost was reasonable.

I just saw something interesting. A member of a Facebook group I belong to listed a 79 DT125 for sale. He's in England. His bike is a twin shock model and the downtube is different then my monoshock bike. Apparently in some parts of the world, Yamaha still used the older twin shock frame in 79.

Quote from: svgarage on February 18, 2024, 12:14:47 PMBe very careful about dropping your claim before the issue is resolved. I had an issue with a vendor not refunding money for an item that I had already sent back. I started a claim with my credit card and he suddenly became very communicative. He convinced me to drop my claim, because he saw that the credit card had already issued me the refund. Well that was the "provisional" credit, meaning that credit was in lieu of the money from the vendor. My only option when I dropped the claim was that the issue was resolved. So the credit card took back the provisional credit. Now I had no refund from either the credit card, the vendor and I had no product! The credit card would not let me reopen or start a new claim on the same issue, so I was stuck hoping/praying that I wasn't going to get hosed.

He asked me to close my claim several times. I did contact PayPal and asked them to place my claim on hold to give the seller a chance to deliver the correct pipe.

I was looking over messages between myself and the seller. The pipe he sent was not the one he sent me a picture of. He sent me a photo of this pipe installed...on a twin shock DT100. I was able to get in touch with him in December. He said he was very busy with a big Christmas order. After Christmas, no response to my messages.
I finally opened a claim with PayPal and that got a lot of response. He's going to have someone send the pipe out right away. Then a message to please drop my claim. Sorry he has been slow to respond but he's in the hospital (along with a photo of someone in a hospital bed with a IV drip).
So I'll wait and see if it actually shows up.

Quote from: 2 Smoker on October 19, 2023, 05:56:33 PMEvery time I look at this exhaust it makes sad that it did not fit, when I seen it I wanted one for my 75 DT175 :bang:
Funny thing is, I think this pipe is designed for the older twin shock frames and the seller assumed it would fit later monoshock bikes.

Quote from: oxford on October 17, 2023, 05:30:06 PMCurious what the fitment issues are?
The header pipe hits the downtube of the frame and is still 1" from the exhaust port. The mounting tab isn't even close to the mounting location on the frame. Stinger seems wrong too. I think he sent the wrong pipe.

I have tried contacting him, no response and he was right there to respond when I inquired about buying one. I did pay through PayPal so maybe they can help.

I didn't have much choice. I haven't seen any other options out there for a 79 DT125. I tried Dogster, no luck there.

I had some time to try installing the pipe this morning...and it doesn't fit. I'm going to have to contact the seller to see what he will do to correct this problem.

I ordered a pipe for my 79 DT125 from Indonesia. It was $270 with shipping, It only took 16 days from ordering to get it. The pipe is stainless steel, welds and construction look good.
I inquired about RD pipes. He sent some pictures for both AC and LC bikes. His RD pipes have manifolds and slip in pipes, not a solid flange like the DT pipe.
The seller deals through Facebook, name Kenzo Knalpot Racing. He's also on Instagram.

I did a search on them and there is a lot of talk about them on Thumpertalk. Mostly positive, so I bought one for my DT125. But, on advise from members here, I never used it. It still sits on my shop bench. When it comes down to it, I trust the advice of people on this forum. If you're looking for inexpensive pistons, I used Cruzinimage pistons in my RD400 with no problems with a couple of thousand miles on them.

A couple of plastic splitting wedges. One from the side under the intake flange. Tap it in tight. The second between the exhaust flange and motor mount bolt flange. Tap that one in real tight. Heat the cylinder and let it sit. Tap on the wedges every now and then to see if they work loose.
If that doesn't work, maybe a porta power with a spreader jaw between the exhaust and motor mount flange. Be careful with the porta power, you can apply more force then you realize.

I think you mis-match something. Vape(czech company) and HPI(belgian company) are very different companies and Vape were never sold as HPI ignitions. Vape is the same like the former Powerdynamo(german company) ignitions. Vape was the producer of the electronic components of the Powerdynamo ones. Powerdynamo itself "only" machined the mounting hardware and confectionated the ignitions for the various models. As they closed and moved into other business fields Vape took over the whole process.
Regards Uwe
You're 100% correct. I've used both in the past but it was a few years ago. I had a mismatch in my brain.

I bought mine direct from HPI a few years ago when Vape was sold as HPI ignition.  The prices were very good. It looks like they still sell Vape products and the prices are still good.

I think the replies confirmed what I thought. Cases were way too expensive. I was surprised that the trans would go for that much though.
Thanks, John
