im not familiar enough with 400 stuff to id, but i do know the r5 and rd250/350 ones swap, but the R5 ones have less steel core 'fingers' around them than the rd ones.  i actually have pics of the 2 side by side at home somewhere.

It will help if you can post a few photos here.

Cheers, BB

Hi,

Don't know whether this has been discussed previously. My apologies if it has been.

Need inputs:

I have the Rotor/Stator/Cam of R5 [steel & Mitsubishi], 350B [steel & Mitsubishi] & 400C [aluminium cast & Mitsubishi] with me. These have got mixed up while storage. Now, I am not able to figure out which Rotor & Cam belongs to their respective Stator units. The parts manual has different part numbers so I believe these are not interchangeable.

I checked with a few, they aren't sure. Says YAM had various combinations across models.

Is there a way to find out?

Cheers, BB

I have a set of Prolite. They work well. Also, these are available in incremental sizes of 0.25.

The old REs were very strong and followed the standards set by the erstwhile British maker. They have evolved over period of time to keep up with emission norms. To improve fuel economy, REs have gone through weight cutting in various places in the bike.

We have had reports of the complete front end breaking off from the frame neck!! These are doing rounds on the social media. But a lot of these media messages isn't true always.

However, there is a lot to be desired in their build quality.

I would not bother with RD parts, stick with the R5 trans and cylinders. Back in the day I used to put modified R5 cylinders on later RD350 and 250's. The piston port was used on the TZ and R5, was my preference, though nothing wrong with reeds, smoother power band compared to piston port.  I thought it sounded better and had that surge that the reeds did not. I have owned many R5's, rode one as my daily rider for 5 years until recently when I sold it because I finished another RG500 project bike.

Perfect... Exactly what I did to my R5. Keep it as it is and enjoy what Yam gave us in a piston ported engine and 5 speed trans. If you need a RD, buy one and ride it rather than turning a R5 around. There are many Reed valved machines available all around us.

I am also unsure whether DS7/YR5 mounts would fit. The shape and fitment of the top triple clamp is very different from that of an RD. Am attaching a photo of an RD with the mount. Kindly check.

I faintly remember, though unsure, seeing few pics of RDs with turn signal mounted on the top triple clamp, just like the DS7/R5. Am I correct?

If yes, from where can I source a pair?

I have a R5, couple of Rajdoots, an USRD350 and a 1976 250C. These were built by me from grounds up!, so I can give you a heads up!

Being a purist, I desist from fitting one bike's meter set to another. Each has a unique distinction. But, I have done it once - fitted a 1977 meter set onto one of my Rajdoot. Mod - well yes, enlarging the two holes and it fits straight.

Rajdoots have a wider meter cover and is compatible with its own meter plate. The center pod is quite similar to later 250s/400s. FYI, its meter plate fits directly onto USRD T plate. If you were to swap the complete meter set, then it is okay.

The ones available are replicas. Have not used these and hence, I cannot comment. Seen many using though. Originals ones and refurbished originals [with its original internals] are good enough. But, these clocks are not as good as Nippon Seiki in my experience. The only advantage with Rajdoot stuffs are in its simplicity. Simple to fit, simple to remove and simple to wire!, unlike the complicated ones of my 1976 C - it has inner damper rubbers, outer cups, wires to be routed appropriately etc etc

One more issue you may face with Rajdoot meters are its drives - the speedo and tacho ends will not suit the USRD cable. You will have to find a wider cable nut to match.

Czakky...keep RD meters away from your R5. If I recall, R5 T plate is about 10mm shorter than RD T Plate. Bike looks horrible if you were to fit a meter set of a RD350 - I tried and swore on myself!

If heated, the shrinkage would be uneven. Wonder how it can shrink so proportionately.

Would it belong to some other model?

Hi,

Was browsing for 3rd over Piston Kits for my Air cooled RD350, when I came across multiple websites listing Wiseco Pro-lite 513M06475. They have listed these for YAM RZ350s and Banshee ATVs.

Kindly let me know if any of us has used it in their AC RDs and if yes, what is been their experience.

Cheers
