Title: VIN NUMBER LOOKUP
Post by: suey1958 on August 07, 2022, 09:20:34 PM
Hey Guys, A friend just bought a Yamaha that appears to be an R5 or Ds7 from the picture he sent. He thought it was an RD. I was unable to find a serial number decoder to identify it for him. I thought there was a decoder here but maybe it was on the old site.
The vin appears to be 397 200976. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

The VIN number is for a 1975 RD200B. Very easy to tell it apart from the R5/DS7 and other RD models.
-It is reed valve, the R5/DS7 are piston port.
-It has Tei-Kei carbs with no rubber joint to the cylinder. Only the RD125 uses this setup, all other RD models use Mikunis (and all other RD models use rubber carb joints).
-It is electric start. The generator cover is larger (extends out further) than any other model

Should look like this:
