Title: Sometimes you can't say no.....
Post by: stresa on July 09, 2022, 06:48:04 AM
Hi guys,
a friend of mine in the UK stumbled over a very unique bike in spring 2021. A friend of him built and developed it. It was up for sale as soon as everything will be 100%. My friend got first option to buy it for me till all is sorted. Well this worked out now last weekend. Everything is running as it should. Very fast bike and handles really well.
An all homemade monocoque frame, 6-speed YZ250 engine converted to disc-valve induction, self engineered and then casted cylinder, Astralite 18" wheels, 35mm fork, Lockheed brakes, tank and plastics homemade also. Many hours in head scratching in this bike.I am very pleased my friend found this for me.

As the bike is still in the UK I can't say when it will be here in Germany. Have to wait till my friend attend at one of our races. Everything not so easy since the Brexit.
Above I only wrote what my friend saw at the trackday. He was impressed with the speed.
With a bit luck the bike will be out at one of our meetings in September.

Hi Mark,
nothing of that bike on Facebook. The guy who built that bike isn't on Facebook.
It was pure luck that my friend stumbled over it last year and that he knew the builder/owner since centuries. "Thanks" to Covid, who let the guy find the time to finish it, it was begun many moons ago and than abadoned. Beside a few test runs the bike is virtually new even the build was started nearly 30 years ago.
As soon as it at my home I will take detail pic but that will be in October, just talked with my friend when he comes over
Regards Uwe

Mark,
the frame was the reason that I wanted hat bike. I always desired a monocoque frame, equal which 2stroke engine in it. Such a unique engine which is in it is a benefit for me. I have now a monocoqued framed race bike, a trellis framed(Siroko TZ) and a central tube framed(Höpfner TD3) one, beside the normal framed bikes. I have the patterns and drawings of the Scitsu frame also lying here. For a bike like that one:

Just haggling with my son in law(who has to build the frame/bike) which engine we will use. 50ccm or 125ccm

Finally the bike arrived from the UK here in Germany.
It is really an amazing little gem. In the meantime I got all infos and records of the bike. It is not a 250 as expected. Only the crankcase and the transmission is of a 1986 YZ250. Homemade crank with shorter troke. Homemade cylinder with less bore. So the displacement is down to 200cm. That was done to can parcitipate in different classes in the UK back in period. They had a big 200cm class scene and a few different 2stroke single cylinder classes up to 250ccm. Got spares of the homemade casted engine parts with the bike. And the bike has a name also. It is called Tomic 200. Created by the name tags of the 2 builders. Very pleased with the bike.

that thing is pretty incredible. I absolutely love it, the engineering effort/execution is top notch.

That frame is pretty awesome. I wonder why there are no mainstream factory bikes put together that way. Seems like it would be economical to cut the flat major members from sheet and bolt them to a few castings or carbon blocks for the steering head and swing arm mounts. You could probably use all carbon fiber for that matter, and water jet all the slabs. I've seen RC kits made that way.

They made a lot of frames from steel stampings back in the 60's.
