Title: RD Harness
Post by: JB Weld on January 11, 2020, 11:04:23 AM
I have 74 Yam 350 and I feel like the wiring is fine, but know it's over 40 yrs.old and feel like there is a benefit to replacing the harness.

With tha said, anyonr have experience with the Economy Cycle harness?

Looks like a great price for what it is.

Thanks. Going to think a bit on thia one. Rebuilt engine about 3-4 years ago and haven't run it yet. Had a laundry list of parts to comlete the overhaul and bought a house. Spent the last 3 years remodeling,  and now it's bike time.

i mean, a new harness is great, johns are very nice. however, if there isn't any corrosion and the connections are in good shape, you shouldn't worry about it. my .02

Thanks. Once my parts are delivered and get a chance to look the bike over again, I'll dig into connections. I do know I've had turn signal issues sometimes after sitting for the winter, but that would go away after swiping the switch a few times. All of the other wiring seemed good as far as I remember.

If you have turn signal issues but they go a way after you work the switch, you have some corrosion on the switch contacts.  It's not in the harness.  You can spray contact cleaner in the lever slot and work the switch back and forth to make things a bit better.

I've replaced only one wiring harness, but that was on my XS650 because the PO made it into an unrecognizable mess.  I've had no issue with any of my other 45 year old Yamaha harnesses.

Genes right. sounds like the switch contacts are just dirty. clean them and use dielectric grease after to keep fresh.  :twocents:

Will do! Thanks guys!. I'm sure I never did myself any favors by riding in the rain, but there are only so many months to ride in Wisconsin.
