Title: 1977 RD400 Fender Compatability
Post by: motodreams on April 17, 2019, 11:21:02 AM
Hi All,

Rear fender on this 77 400 is dented and I would like to replace it.  Are there other models with an interchangeable rear fender?  Looks like the 76-78 250 will also work.  How about the XS650?

Same questions on the front although I may keep it on there.

The rear chrome subframe is showing its age so I may replace as well.

RZ350 fenders are a good replacement.

Sorry, I should state that I want to stick with the stock chrome.

The RZ fender is plastic and does not look original.

I'm pretty sure the rear fender and grab rail are unique to the RD400 C & D

XS650 - I think all years had 19 inch front wheels, that fender might not look great on an RD400.

RD400 non-oem fenders are available in chrome.  And stock fenders come up now and then on e-bay.

Early 400 fenders are unique with how they mount to the plastic inner fender. However, I have seen someone mount a RD60 fender on a 400. Not sure if any modification was needed. Those are probably harder to find than a 400 fender anyway.

You can get reproduction rear fenders from Yambits.
