Title: Chamber difference between rd400 and Daytona ski
Post by: D.e.e. on April 23, 2019, 02:27:11 AM
This may have been discussed before but what is the difference between 76-78 rd400 and Daytona chambers? Will Daytona's work on a 76? Motocarreras in particular. Thanks

Yes, they will work, but not a bolt on.
The cylinder flange angles are different
(so is the bolthole spread more from the 76-78 to the '79-but most chamber flanges are slotted to fit all RD models-350's are different again) and the frames are also different, so the mounting placement is not the same. With some fabing up new mounting brackets and other frame fitting things like if using stock foot peg controls or rearsets, center stands have to come off and may have to modify the loop hangers or cut them off.
Side stands never fit well...a relocation kit makes it way better with less modding.

Been a long time since I did that swap...

Thanks for the explanation. Sounds like it's better just to get the correct chambers for the year.
