That's been going on here for at least the last 8-10 months. Inventories have been extremely low and some bike showrooms are pretty bare!
Dealer markup and added fees are also out of control. A couple examples from a shopping trip at Yamaha and Kawasaki two months ago for a small dual sport:
$5199 MSRP
Destination Charge: $250
Added Dealer Markup: $699
CA Emissions: $100
Total: $6248 + Fees (does not include any government fees and taxes, any finance charges if applicable, any dealer document processing charge)
$5799 MSRP
- $800 Discount (current model with 350mi)
+ $430 OEM Destination Charge
+ $1280 Added Markup
Total: $6709 Total Sale Price *does not include sales tax, documentation fee or licensing.
added dealer markup?? That will really make you want to buy there.
My local Kawasaki started receiving 2022 motorcycles, most of them already have deposits on them, price is MSRP plus usual fees, no markups. They have few left over from last year, including a klr650 and a Versys 650. Apparently my local Kawa dealer is the biggest in Canada sale wise, they sell records amount of atv and SxS.
Last year, my local Yamaha dealer was also selling at MSRP, they couldn't keep anything on the floor, especially atv and SxS. The owner told me 2021 was her best year (sale and service) in 40 years of business.
Here's a current price on a 2022 KLX300R that is "on sale" and on the floor at a dealer near me. It's a very big dealer with 5 locations in SoCal.

A.D.M. $1,495
Sale Price $7,094* + Govt. Fees
So, they give you a $100 discount "sale price" and then add on almost $1500. :rolleyes:

low inventory here as well but its trickling in. They arent gouging at the one in town so far. I did go look at an RE 650 Interstate? a few weeks ago. zero desire to own one. got a written estimate out of curiosity of 7800 or so, while they msrp for (at the time) was 5800 or so, now up to 6100. :dawg: and, IMHO, they are crap bikes. the fit and finish if you look really close is just garbage. But rh japanese dealer (honda/kaw/yamaha) are moving more side by sides and can ams than anything.
I am looking at 22 Guzzi (new) tomorrow at a dealer. I am abandoning my search for a 70's Eldo/Ambo as their prices have *tripled* in the last 2-3 years.
I don't think there's any markups (non mainstream brand) on them, in fact there are even a few small incentives offered.
Mark - as a former Enfield Bullet owner I had to do a cursory look online at the current Enfield line and my impression is that they look like those cheap Chinese bikes. Pass.

yup. one of the members here is awaiting a guzzi, should be soon as well. was very price friendly which surprised me.
as far as the re's.. a bit better than chinese bike quality, but not much. Indian mfg. just isnt there yet.
Take a look at the Youtube video F9 did on first oil change analysis for various new bikes. Enfield was actually the best. I was surprised, but a neighbor just bought a new Himalayan and is very happy with it. I figure they hired some Japanese to correct (fire a bunch of workers) their quality issues. Their engineering is good.
I bought a new CanAm Spyder RTL last Spring and it has been very trouble-free. Paid MSRP + $300 and it was delivered to my door. Purchased from iMotorsports out of Chicago.
The V7 is such a pretty bike in spokes.
Im part of the re owners group on fb just to see how they are . they have always intrigued me, but with 1st hand (professional) manufacturing experience from India, its very hit and miss. Not engineering... manufacturing. My ktm390 was indian made. it had a few.. issues.. but overall was very very good. It was also the 1st year and ktm was keeping an eye on them more on the launch.
I really like the Guzzi V7 Special, too. If I were looking for an around-town only bike, I'd seriously consider one of those or the V7 Stone.
I'm waiting on a 22 V85TT Travel at the moment. Timelines keep slipping though from February initially to April, and now ... ??? Bike's been on order since Guzzi would take them late last year.
