Gonna be putting new seals in and saw this statement on another forum:
" After about mid production R5/DS7, the crank seals became located with a ridge that makes it a split-the-cases job to change it."
Now I think that was a answer to removing and installing the left side seal. But is there any truth to this?
Edit: I see HVC has a notification page on how to mod new ribbed seals for the R5 and DS7
ive never seen an r5 or ds with a lip seal, thats just incorrect. and I own 2 (fairly late) 72s right now.
pull em.
Thanks Mark.. I'm pretty certain the ones I bought from Economy are R5 specific and have no rib.
Do ya'll put any yamabond on them on install or just stick them in dry?
Just put a super light coating of oil or grease on them if you feel like it. Dry is ok though.
ive used a slight smattering of yamabond (motoseal) more as a lubricant. but ive gone in dry as well. :toot:
Raising this thread from the grave to confirm - you can remove the crank seals on a DS7 without pulling the motor?
I have these seals:

The way they are pictured is the way they are supposed to go on?
Yes, top towards crank.
