Post by: m in sc on January 18, 2023, 10:20:03 AM
Just ordered one of these for the TZR. found it to be an interesting gizmo. anyone use one of these before?

That's quite interesting. I could use one of those on my 83 RZ350.

Assuming the cable screws into the threaded end. How does the other end attach to the speedo drive or the speedometer?

I think it actually threads into the speedo and the cable goes into it. thats what the tzr guys said. I have one coming so, i'll let you know. prob be next month before it shows up

Mark, Ski Doo also makes a converter for their older sleds. No clue about the threads, but something to keep in mind... especially since Bombardier is all metric.

I just cut a bit of red electrical tape and stuck one at 25, one at 55, one at 75 and one at 100.

After the sumo wheel conversion on the TDR, I just stuck a bicycle computer on the stock speedo glass.  Works great and I'm not too bothered by the look.  Probably a lot more accurate than the stock speedo as tire aspect ratio makes quite a difference

I mostly use it as a fuel guage.  75miles to reserve, 85miles and you're pushing the bike.

Speedo convertor and trip ODO should work great too.  You can also swap out to an FZR400 speedo and drive, but that'll be more expensive for sure.

i get it, but im not doing that. I like stock gauges, or stock looking gauges.  i did 3d print an outer 'ring' in mph thats stuck on the glass right now, and its good, but i mean for 60 bucks for a new adapter unit shipped, its worth it to me.

I dig the sled one though.

I have several bikes that are in KPH.
But they always had the inner band marked with MPH.

Is there a stock looking face from another bike that could be used, and fit?

Mark, I'll do some digging quick. I just *may* have a sled speedometer converter in my spares. That's if I didn't look at it the last time I had sled parts in my hand and go: "Why the fuck do I still have this?" and toss it in the bin.

EDIT:
Nope. Pretty sure I threw it out after all those years. Dangit!

So what's going on inside of that.  Small set of planetary gears?
