I'm rebuilding a "free" '87 Honda XL250R that had intake valves that looked like that.  So bad I had to sacrifice a guide.

that is a brake shoe hold down stud for a drum brake car or truck.

I had a job working at a machine shop, many years ago, doing valve jobs. Some of the heads would come in that were run for months, skipping away, after burning a valve and they would have a big pie slice shape gone out of them.
