Title: 2R9 Cylinder sleeve question
Post by: 604Paulb on June 13, 2024, 04:54:35 PM
Hi All,
I am just starting a restoration in a 1980 RD400G. Have a set of 2r9 Cylinders in the shop. They called and said they couldn't find liners. 78 model was available but they want to know if they can install them instead and port them to match?
Any info on this would be appreciated
Cheers

I cant see there being very much difference between the G and the older 400's, and if they are going to match the original porting you should be fine.

Are the RD400 liners press/ shrink fit?
As you all know, the 350 liners cannot be removed..

They do press out, yes
the problem I'm having is that the US seller is saying the 2r9 is a European spec and the US (2v0) liner isn't correct for it I'm thinking the E might be okay but it's a pricey assumption

i def dotn see an issue with going with a c,d, or e setup if they are willing to do it.

Compare port maps; that should give the best alternative. Better to have to modify the sleeve to match the casting than the other way around.
