Title: RZ350 PV servo screeches
Post by: teazer on June 24, 2024, 08:21:59 PM
When I turn on the ignition, I expect to hear the old whir, whir as the PV servo goes through its cycle.  Recently it started to sound more like a screech like a dry bush.  IS that common and is it able to be lubed or do I need a new servo motor?

I thought I'd ask before I start tearing the tank and other parts off to investigate.  I couldn't see any reference to lubing the servo motor in the FSM.

you can carefully take the unit apart and lubricate it. probably the motor shaft itself, ive done it before.

Thanks Mark.

Any springs in there that will immediately run and hide in some black hole in the shop?

So I disconnected the cables to be sure the noise was from the servo assembly and not a drive cable or the PVs. That confirmed where the noise was coming from, so I removed the servo and the nylon gear train all appeared OK so I removed a gear and powered up and sure as fate, the noise came from that tiny electric motor, so I applied some lube and just like magic, the noise vanished.  It was a dry end bush on the motor itself.

The servo is back together and tomorrow I'll hook it all back up and adjust the cables and we should be back to normal and all will be right with the world. Turned out to be a simple fix.

  Thanks.  you were on the money - it was the end of the motor haft. Hardest part was fitting the cables.  Setting the PV was easier than I expected.

Thanks again.
