Title: Steering stem bearings
Post by: Scooterror on August 04, 2025, 03:45:04 PM
I installed the AllBalls bearing races in my 72 r5 frame. The top bearing race looks wrong to me. Sticks out the top about 2mm (bottom pic)and the bottom race sits pretty deep (top pic). Does this look correct?
Thanks!

Yes, that's how they fit. I'd find a set of stock races and balls on eBay if you don't run a spacer.

I just got a set for mine, I realized that the top sticks out like that, I may just run the all balls lowers and stock upper bearings unless someone thinks thats a bad idea for some reason.

Nope, I've read a few people doing hybrid setups like that.

John at Economy Cycle sells the caged ball bearings. I ran All Balls on the bottom and his caged bearings on top. Works great.
