lost the original cover off the 67 C2TR a few weeks ago, it was brittle, repaired many times and finally let loose on a ride. :boom: these are near impossible to find, and original. Also, not painted but molded in color.
so, i did buy an NOS silver one on ebay. measured it, modeled it in solidworks, and printed a rough test one out of red abs. tweaked a few things and did a final print out of maroon PLA. sanded it, cleared it semi gloss, and put a reproduction decal on it. its 4mm thick, the stock one was 2mm. its also braced here and there in the back.
the chunk under the new covers is the bit of original cover left over from under the screw.
1st pic is stock cover on bike before it left.
Wow that is amazing. A very good replica. I am impressed with the color matching the gas tank. You do good work but I imagine that must be challenging. Like keeping your fingers crossed that it comes out close to what you're after for a final result.
ill be honest, i got lucky there's an off the shelf filament that color. better yet, we print a bunch at work, all functional, not cosmetic so i bought it for work. (because it doesnt usually matter) the red abs was done w my material though, at home on my printer.
The PLA red color was a hair bright on the final print, so when i clear coating it, i did from a few feet away dusted the clear with black, then cleared it 2 more times. sanded, then gave it the final finish w a light polish with a worn out scotchbrite.
Excellent, Mark!
Very cool!
Very nice!
