Title: Timing Light Issue With Vape - Who Has a Timing Light Brand/Model That Works
Post by: westernco400 on June 26, 2026, 03:32:16 PM
I am trying to confirm my static timing on my 1976 RD400 Clough stage II with Vap and a Zeeltronic but can't get my timing light to come on. It is a newer Innova 5568 and everything I have tried won't allow this unit to pick up the coil wire spark on this CDI type system. I run resistor type B8's and standard coil wires that I can't believe are that insulated.

This newer type unit must not be compatible with a CDI type ignition. Please post what timing light brand/model you have successfully used on the Vape system so I can go and buy one. Going nuts in Colorado!

^this.  Also you get more accurate readings if you hook it up to a battery the bike isn't using.  Don't ask me how I know this, it's just something I remember from owning an old Triumph fitted with an electronic ignition.

Great suggestions to be used on my next light. I have received advice from a long time tuner to try an old Craftsman model 2302 unit so I ordered one on Ebay - it is on the way. Stay tuned for results.
