Title: Neutral light not turning off in gear
Post by: 350smoker on August 25, 2019, 04:53:11 PM
As the title says my neutral light doesn't turn off when I put the bike in gear. Any ideas?

Obvious question but, have you checked the wire and the plastic switch?

I'm having lots of light problems though the blinkers only work when both brakes are on and the tail light on illuminates with front brake. Brand new rear brake light switch also so idk

The neutral switch is working the ground side of that circuit.  When you shift it interrupts the ground and the light goes out, you must have a short to ground on that wire somewhere that is completing the circuit without the switch.

Look around the switch , around the powerdynamo backing plate, that's a known pinch area. Then check up at the headlight and where the light itself is. Theres no secret trick, you just have to inspect the harness and connections. These bikes are old and wires get brittle and crack. Look for pinch points too around the steeringneck. Cheers

You can always run a new wire from the switch to the light

Ran a new wire and it works thanks so much! Now to figure out why my brake light is only working with the front brake.

:righteous: glad you got it! Give the rear brake light switch a look, it shares power with the front brake switch so I would say the harness is probably working properly. Could be as simple as the connection. You can use a voltmeter to test the switch and see if it's working (continuity) good luck!

Having this similar problem myself. It just appeared out of nowhere when I went riding the other day. Been having some electrical problems ever since. I will try to right a new wire to see if it helps.

Were your other lights dim and did your neutral light get dim when you revved the bike up?

Looks like I have to figure out what is going on with my issue. I am messing with it tonight.

UPDATE: Brush was worn down and made the spring hit the slip ring causing it to come off of the rotor. Piece of the cooper slip ring wedged between the neutral switch wire and caused it to short out.

Sourced my issue. One of my bushes were worn down so bad that it took off the copper on my rotor and got caught on my neutral light. Fixed that issue last night, giving it a test ride in a bit.
