Title: Dry feeling Steering,...RD350 stocker
Post by: suey1958 on September 25, 2019, 11:21:49 AM
Sitting still and turning the handlebars either way (back and forth) the neck bearings feel dry. (turns fine but not smooth like it should) I am pretty sure it has not been apart and has whats left of the 45 year old grease in it.
I will take it apart later (in the winter) and clean, re-grease, etc as needed.

In the meantime,  is there a trick to get a shot of oil in there to smooth it up a bit? Thanks :umm:

I'd recommend using tapered steering head bearings and getting rid of the loose balls.

balls out, time to repack.

ive never been a fan of tapered neck bearing unless the stock races were toast. take tree apart, clean, inspect, then decide. but you need to take it apart, sorry.

Thanks Mark, I figured that was the only answer. You folks have so many tricks up your sleeves that I had to ask. Thanks!
