Title: 1976 RD400 Kenny Roberts Colors
Post by: RD4LIFE on August 29, 2020, 01:22:29 PM
Hey guys, New to site and new to the RD400 model. Owned many 2 strokes over the years but mostly RZ's and Kawasakis.

Came across this 76 RD and bought of a good friend. Spent most of 2020 spring modifying bike to what I wanted for design to match my RZ350 I restored in 2019.

Updated RD with custom tail I made from aluminum, installed uni pod filters, DG Exhaust, Twin temp gauges. Suspension upgraded with aftermarket piggyback shocks and front upgraded with emulators and R/T springs. Running Pirelli Sport Demon tires front and back. Currently running on premix 32:1 with Belray semi synthetic during break in and will go full synthetic Amsoil shortly.

I painted bike with the same color I used on my 86 RZ which is close to the color Yamaha used on its competition bikes back in late 70's. I had my local graphic shop make me up some decals similar to Kenny Roberts scheme back in that era. Decals were cleared over as final step

Since picture taken I updated RD with TDR Reeds, boost bottle, 15T front sprocket and steering damper. Thanks to John at Economy Cycle for all his help during my build... Great guy and company for parts.

Having so much fun riding this bike... pulls strong and puts smile on this old guys face every time I ride.

Thanks for the space
Paul

Thanks guys alum swingarm on wish list was hoping I could find a cheaper option by finding one that can be made to work with some fabricating and welding. With what I'm seeing new will run about 800 to 900 landed here in Canada with exchange, duty and shipping.

There is the MotaLanna one, I think there is a thread here with what needs to be done to it. Looks like they have a super light one now too.

Holy cheap parts, Batman! What's the catch, shipping from Japan $$?

Shipping from Japan is comparable to shipping from the UK.  Maybe less.

I think it was about $80 to ship my KH400 pipes.

I would expect $60ish to ship a swingarm.
