When installing ring sets in which one ring has a green coating, does the green one go toward the top, or is it the lower one?

who likes bacon?
Do you put the green ring on top or bottom?
What brand? Never seen a green ring, although all the ones I've had have been OEM
Are you talking about the rings or the expanders (wavy pieces)? Is this for a keystone type OEM piston? If so, there are 2 ring expanders included. The yellow colored one goes under the top ring. HTH

I'm asking about stock yamaha brand that come in the green box, flat style for R5. I have two or three sets and they all have the coating on the sealing surface of one piston ring; not the expander (those go on the scrap shelf). There is also a difference in some wiseco nos rings I bought in that one is a dark greyish black and the other is silver. :help: :cheerleader:
Greg, I just went through a few sets of my NOS "green box" R5 & DS7 rings. These were still factory sealed. Most have one green and one plain ring, a few had two green rings. There is a slip of paper in the box that states "Application of the expanders", colored yellow to be coupled with top piston ring, non-colored to be coupled with 2nd piston ring. After careful scrutiny I could see the yellow on one of the expanders. While this isn't definitive, I would think the colored ring is the top one........................................... :twocents: .D
Also, after taking a magnifying glass to the rings, the painted one is stamped "N---50", the unpainted one "2N---50". Don't know if that makes any difference........................D
Thanks guys.
Why didn't they include more info on the expander slip? must be some kind of clue. I think I put the green one on top before so will stick to that method unless someone else chimes in. :metal:
