Title: Rear Master Cylinder Seal Orientation
Post by: IICYCLE on December 31, 2020, 11:30:22 AM
Getting ready to install rear master cylinder kit on my rd400. Does anyone know which way the tapered seal fits(not the one that fits on the spring but the other) ? Happy New Year :toot:

The seal "open" side faces up in the bore so as it is pushed in the pressure expands the sealing flange. (smaller diameter is away from the fluid)

By the way, what type of grease do you have on the seal ?

It's "red rubber grease", which is used for master cylinder & caliper rebuilding

Good info here that I have referred to in the past: Brakecrafters - Tips & Info (https://www.brakecrafters.com/blogs/hints-tips-and-other-brake-motorcycle-brake-information)  I have one of their reverse bleeders
