Post by: soonerbillz on April 15, 2021, 02:38:29 PM
Is the R5 carb # 278 A1?
Is there different numbers for left and right?

left and right ARE different for sure.

278-14101-01-00 carb assembly '1'
278-14102-01-00 carb assembly '2'

not sure how that correlates to left and right.

fyi... early 1970 has the mixture screws on the other side vs 71 and 72... but fiche shows same part number.  :umm:

See.. that's why I asked. There are some on ebay posted as R5 carbs.. some have the A1 mark, some with a A2 mark.
I wanted to be sure they are R5 carbs.
The other question was "side specific " which answered.
But yours is the choke side and marked A1.. but I see another choke side marked A2... ???

Both sides on mine are marked 278 A1.

I don't know what the marks mean, but you should be looking for '278' no matter what.

I did some sleuthing on Ebay.  There are two purported R5 LH carbs with readable marks.  A third can't be discerned.  On says A2, one says A1.  All the readable RS carbs say A1.

Who knows what the '1' or '2' means?
