Title: Source for JDM parts needed
Post by: 85RZwade on January 09, 2022, 04:26:04 PM
I bought a lovely swingarm from peaky here, for a 1988 3EN1 JDM FZR400R and I need to find a source for parts. Neither CMS nor Megazip have breakdowns for a model with this braced beauty, and it...well, it's a long story. Anybody have a sweet source for parts for Japanese market bikes?

I have a complete 3EN1 with that same lovely braced swingarm. Luckily I haven't had to source unobtainium parts for it yet but this forum has been most helpful for JDM:

Thanks guys; Blue it's because of you that I know just what that swingarm is! I should write it down somewhere...

Similar to the 3XV, it looks like the shop manual and parts book are only available in Japanese.

The whole bike is available

Or get a parts book so you know the part number you need

Finally, pdxjim, the man, the myth, the legend really, came through with a file of a 3EN1 complete parts manual. My mystery is solved and Jim has proven once again that he's far more than a great head of hair. I'm off to scour the interweb for a 90387-172J8-00 collar!

The End...or is it?

Be careful with megazip. They are legit, located in Russia (they use satellite warehouses for drop shipments) but they have a nasty tendency to take your money and hold it until they find the part, IF they find it.

I was close, but couldn't do it. I read the reviews on MegaZip's OWN WEBSITE and couldn't take the chance. Searched for a couple of hours and just bought from Impex Japan; 14 bucks so far, with freight cost TBA. I'll report how it all shakes out.

Never had an issue with Megazip, but I make sure to check the box for the Japanese warehouse every time.
Impex I have had some issues with....parts listed as available, then find out they are unavailable after I pay for them....

lol, well I guess there's always the off chance, but I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Speaking of JDM parts...
Just got a box of bits today.
Some parts for RGV's, a fork brace off a first gen Kat, a XJR400 swingarm, and...
...rare as hens teeth 3XV-10 cylinders/pistons/powervalves... and some other SP ignition parts for my TZR-SP, and upper fairing.

I have never lost money from any of the Japanese NOS parts warehouses, but I have had issues with them....all part of owning a 2T

What is your plan for that XJR400 swinga'?

I've had my eye on those for a long time now.

I am curious about that 'arm, too!

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, Impex Japan cancelled my order: Item is impossible to order, out of production, they say. No shit? I guess it's back to Megazip. Wish me luck!

Screw that. $24, only offered from US warehouse. Bought a used FZ600 sprocket carrier including said spacer on eBay for 35 shipped instead...from Mr. Monkeyclaw! Anyone need an FZ600/FJ600/SRX600/Radian sprocket carrier?

I paid less than $20 for the arm...obviously shipping is always crazy $$$ though.
That is why I waited till I had enough parts to ship all at one time.
Initially I had wanted to see how it might work on my 78 GS1000...looks to be about 1/4 or less narrower than my GS arm and about 1 inch longer.
Would look good on a RD400 with a 5x17 rear and the complete 3 x17 FJR400 front end

How do you go about buying stuff from Japan and still get it all shipped together?

There is a middle man organization called Buyee in Japan, as well as other businesses that act as the buyer and shipper for you.
I got lucky many years ago and found a woman who was selling parts on Ebay for a short time.
She also was selling on auctions.yahoo.co.jp, and I began to buy from her on that site.
It has been 10 years now and I have bought many parts, and she also helped me with 3 of my bikes which came straight out of Japan as JDM only versions.
With the time I have communicated with her, she knows me now and helps me anyway she can.

I hope you send her a Christmas present every year!! That's the kind of relationship you want to maintain.

She definitely makes sure she is compensated for her efforts.
But she has came through for me in every instance when asked

I believe I am at a point now, where most of my buying days are close to the end.
Following the market daily as I watch parts auctioned off, the bikes and parts once used for raising hell and excitement....are now on shelves and bikes as show queens. As parts to keep them running cost too much to chance damage.

Here is just one example of critical parts needed for for the SP version of a TZR 3XV
Pistons no longer produced.
No one makes these from aftermarket.
Only option is a TZ250 4DP single ring...still not cheap, and shorter life.
