How much power do they make derestricted and what is the process?

60hp + is relatively easy to attain.

Porting to SP/TZ spec (or 4DP TZ cylinders) and aftermarket pipes (or 4DP pipes) should get you most of the way there.

I belive a bit more is possible with the addition of SP airboxes and carbs and an aftermarket ignition like Zeeltronic or Ignitech.

Unlike the RGV and NSR, Yamaha's restriction program was more involved than simply retarding the ignition before peak power.

Good thing is, the TZR makes way more midrange power than the others ... even in stock "restricted" form.

Looking back, I am a fool for selling mine back in 2011.  Instead of saving up the $1500ish needed to do the derestriction, I sold the 3XV and bought a Triumph D675. Later I sold the D, and threw too much money at a shitty KH400, and then my LC.

They are fantastic bikes and by some accounts, even though down on power/harder to derestrict, the best of the 250 race reps.

Start off with an SP, and it is almost a TZ with lights when finished.

After not selling on auction at Iconic in July 2022 this bike was listed there for over a year in their Buy-It-Now classifieds section without selling. I don't recall what they were asking.

It's now on BaT with no reserve (same seller). So far the bidding has been pretty quiet so it's only at $3400 with 2 days to go.
