Title: Jackson Special 250
Post by: stresa on February 10, 2019, 04:13:08 PM
Hi guys,
let's start to fill the forum.
Here a few pics of my latest project.
A bike which was built back in 1981/82 in the UK and came to me to Germany in the winter 2017/18.
Bike is based on a YZ250H engine from 1981, frame a modified Honda MB5 one, fork, wheels and fairing of a Honda MT125R. Tank homemade.
Around 40hp, weight is 84,8kg.
A friend solved a few minor and bigger problems and it is now ready to race.

Hi retaRD,
exhaust and tuning of the engine was made by Mick Abbey in the UK back in period. I knew this only as a sticker of him is on the bike and fairing and seat are as raced in the 80tees.

Is the seat a Mead Speed item?

Hi retaRD,
it is a cut down  TZ250/350G seat. It doubt that it is made by Meadspeed as the seat is also from back in period.

MB5 frame? Amazing! Think it would flex like a noodle. Cool bike.

No clue how it goes on a racetrack. Beside a few metres on a field lane we have not tested it yet. First outing on a track will be on 9th march at a test day in Hockenheim.
But the bike won a lot of races back in period in the UK.
We have another YZ250 bike in the pipeline. Based on a YZ250F from 1979. Hope to have it finished for 2020. It will look like the bike in the pic

Well your jackson special sure is light at 84.5kg,
I wonder too about that lightweight frame with the 250 engine,
obviously it works if it has some pedigree.

Nice looking period racer.

We had the first real outing on a trackday(Hockenheim) on saturday.
Bike is great to ride. Absolute stable and does what the rider wants. Frame is more than capable to cope with the engine. Engine pulls like a tractor. Now a bit fine tuning like sorting a too rich carb and a too short gearing.
