Title: Tight front and rear wheel rd400
Post by: rd400greenhorn on February 16, 2019, 11:04:21 AM
Hi guys
Its a wierd one to ask about because it should be damn simple

Everything is New or refurb
Bearings Are New and should be All in place in the rims

But as I tighten the front wheel and rear, They Almost lock up.
IT looks like the front has the inner side of the disc brake, scraping on the caliper( there is not pads installed) i dont know why They hit there a little, everything should be by the book.

The rear has chain tensioners and everything on, but when tightened, Its locked up

ANYONE, with hints/ideas/ experience with this?
Please do tell :)

Are the bearing seated? or you may check the bearings spacer.

Are the seals seated all the way? If not that will cause drag too.

It's like anything else..........if everything was done right it should work. You have something wrong. There just isn't that much to it. One way to make sure the bearings and seals are all the way in is to find some washers that are close the the same OD as the seals and bearings. Then a piece of 16mm all thread and a couple of nuts. Put one washer on each side (where the seals are) slide the all thread thru and put a nut on each side. Hold one nut with a wrench while you tighten the other with a wrench. You will be able to tell if everything was seated properly. If something wasn't seated you will feel some movement. Also make sure the spacer is in the middle of hub between the bearings.

Allright
So.. I had to try, just Removed the caliper front and back, and tighten everything up again, minus the caliper.

Both wheels spin smooth!

So, anyone had this issue? I guess i Will have to maybe a shim or 2 to get the caliper to sit propberly so the disc can spin freely.

Man Iam glad i dont have to take everything apart in the wheels.

:metal:

Do you have stock Yamaha calipers, discs , wheels, fork, rear disc bracket?
Any change or mod may move the disc relative to the caliper.

Are you using Daytona wheels on a 1A1?
Daytona's have a different offset on the rotors.

I assume everything is stock but the build is a bunch of parts gathered from every where, so there might be a mix of different models, but Its All good because it works now
