Turning Wrenches / Napa Flasher
December 16, 2023, 05:10:45 PM
I need a new flasher for my turn indicators does anyone have the flasher part number for the Napa replacement flasher? This is a stock RD400 w/ no LED's.
Also is it a straight forward remove and replace or do I need to do some wiring mods?
Thank you!

Turning Wrenches / Re: Straighten front fender?

10-4 Copy that!

I couldn't see the speedo cable going through the rubber grommet so I wasn't sure if the cable was installed or if it was just hanging there and sometimes it's the simple stuff that throws us into a loop. Hopefully you get it straightened out.

this may seem obvious however do you have it installed backwards I cannot tell from the picture however the hole for the speedometer cable goes on the left side.

General Chatter / Re: Selling on BAT w/ no reserve?

Since you're asking I would list it on cycletrader and see what happens - less keyboard warriors on that site - I don't like how BAT is forcing you into a no reserve situation but if you don't have much money into the bike than go4it and list it on BAT because that's where the big stupid money is

General Chatter / Re: RD400 gas tank lock - no key

in the future if you want to save the gas cap and get it opened you can order a key off of this guy on Ebay for $15 including shipping.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/185348394360?hash=item2b27a00d78:g:IV8AAOSwVQNiNkKF

All he needs is the make and model and the key number usually found on the gas cap or seat lock I've also used his service in the past for bikes that I bought that had no titles and no keys

for what its worth I've found FB marketplace to be a great way to find good deals as a buyer however using it as a seller is a big pain in the ass. There are so many tire kickers and morons out there that have no life and have nothing better to do than waste your time. We call these people  " Keyboard Warriors" this is their life, nothing but internet junkies asking you all kind of stupid questions about your bike for sale and do you have videos of it running etc....etc....with absolutely no intent of buying it.
It's a complete waste of time and energy - so if you decide to sell on there be prepared

Compliments of Mr. Striker - for those who may not know what the difference is

The baffled filter was a paper filter that had internal baffles like this.

If the center portion of the filter is open all the way down then it is NOT baffled. Like this.

EXCELLENT!

Thanks Mark - I must of had a brain fart because I just saw your post where you loaded the Chilton's manual info into the tech library

FYI: the main jet and pilot jet sizes for the RD250 matches the link SoCal posted

https://www.2strokeworld.net/forum/index.php?topic=40.0

( reply  #6 )   Mains = 120  Pilot = 30  Question has been answered - Thank you!

Stock timing was 2.0mm btdc.
Typically we run 1.8mm for today's cornsoaked fuel.

Pilot jet depended on the year. But, assuming it's actually a 1973 RD as a 72 would have been a DS7.

You need to look at the air filter. If it's a baffles style the main jet is a 90 and a 25 pilot. If it's not baffled or open it's a 120 with a 30 pilot.

1 3/4 turns out on air screw was stock.

I will definitely check the air filter next week when the bike arrives
What size jets does the Chilton manual call for?
Striker suggested using a 90 main and a 20 pilot
and the attached link provided by Russ for the 1975 shows a 120 main and a 30 pilot

Thanks for the replies and sorry for the confusion I got the dates mixed up - the bike's definitely a 1975 RD250 - and not a 1972 as previously posted before editing....

I'll also check the air filter to determine which jets to install - Thanks again!

General Chatter / RD 250
December 27, 2021, 07:20:25 AM
a co-worker of mine was telling me he bought a 1975 RD250 brand new and its been sitting for years. He also said that he has tried taking it to several local cycle shops and some have tried to get it running but failed and the others won't touch it. It will run but not well enough to power the bike down the road.

I volunteered to take a look at it for him to see if I could help him out. I've never worked on a RD250 however I'm assuming there very similar to the RD400. Since I don't own a service manual for the RD250 motorcycle I was wondering if some one could please let me know what size the stock main and pilot jets are for the carbs and also what is the correct timing number BTDC for today's fuel.

Thank you.....
