Thank you for the additional pics, it doesn't look too far off honestly.

May be worth it for the better performing petcock and peace of mind.

Quote from: 2steve on May 10, 2025, 08:04:04 PMBought the TZR125 petcock for $20-something on eBay.
It didn't look good at first. Could have been a couple millimeters lower and could have had a longer extension on the knob shaft to reach out of the side cover hole. The feed barb faces out the back, but it still works.

Has the same familiar positions as the RD400 unit.

Any pics of it with the side cover installed?

Yeah, I found the clutch side crank seal shaved by previous owner (hack) and slathered with Yamabond all the way around circumference of the seal when I tore my new to me 84 RZ350 apart post purchase.

Quote from: Vincenthdfan on April 29, 2025, 07:44:13 PMDoes anyone make steel rear sprockets for 520 chains on the RD's?  All I could find when researching this was aluminum, which I dont care to run based on past experience.

I prefer steel on my RD road bike also.

Ever found any for RD's?

I like that conversion petcock that RZ's Unlimited offers but man that price is a bitter pill to swallow.

Its not just the petcock you have to buy at a shade under $200, but then you have to buy an extension piece to make it reasonably original looking and thats an additional $75.

Today the cylinders were installed and the Wicked ATV billet power valve coupler. Lubed the power valve cables, reinstalled the cable mechanism and hooked up the battery to verify neutral light and power valve operation. Then I started the Wicked ATV billet o-ring head install prep. I installed the thermostat and housing sealed with Permatex water pump gasket sealer and Permatex Anerobic on the cylinder base gaskets. Installed the Koso water temp sensor. Thanks M in SC for the phone consult.

I sure like the looks of that fan you have mounted on there for peace of mind in traffic.

Having water cooled dirt bikes over the years, I know first hand what a difference a good fan makes in keeping a bike from boiling over.

Quote from: 1976RD400C on March 21, 2025, 03:17:22 PMHere's how I did mine. Tightened the nuts a little at a time in the correct order. Then you can get a socket on one of the nuts on the back. Using a torque wrench, tightened it to 18 ft. lbs. Then put the 12mm box wrench on it and "felt" what 18 ft. lbs. feels like. Did the rest of them to the same "feel".

That was my plan as well...great minds think alike.

Hmm, interesting...thanks.  :like:

Quote from: m in sc on March 21, 2025, 06:12:24 AMthe instructions come with the tool. you are increasing the length so you need to use a 'lower' indicated value.
below file is the instructions from motion pro.   :afro:

I love new tools! Per M in SC I need one of these and from what I can see there is no other way to properly torque the inaccesibble RZ350 cylinder nuts other than a crows foot as Mark indicated. $21.99 from good old Amazon Prime free shipping MotionPro 08-0134.

I saw those but looked at their users manual for it and didnt quite understand the conversion formula to use it?

Quote from: m in sc on March 07, 2025, 08:15:35 PMno. and they don't control that, the skirt does. I haven't run expansion rings in 30+ years.  bin em.

Fair enough, that's what I needed to hear.  I wont use em if there's going to be no negative effects from their absence?

Any idea what the point of them is?

I know one of my pre-existing OEM pistons had the lower ring pretty well gooed up and stuck even with the expander in place behind it at 7,000 miles when I pulled it apart so if it's intent was to prevent sticking it didnt fix anything.
