Not as old as the bike, but also not new by any means.

All that work, same paint can, and the seat is a lighter shade of red than the tank and fender. Goes to show what black vs grey primer can and will do.

It took a bit of time, but I finished.  I'll take metal any day. Prepping plastic like this is a pain in the ass. I did everything. Went out the next day after I wet sanded it and it cracked overnight.  Stripped it again, which is a royal pain, and used all Krylon primer, not a mis-mash of different products.  First, adhesion promoter, then primer. Then spot filled areas. And sealed it.  All the primer was gray, but the primer on the tank and fender were black.  Sprayed black, waited 2 days, taped and sprayed red.  Forgot to order clear, whoops. So, I had to scuff it, and I scuffed through a few spots.  More black touch up and clear.  Came out ok after sitting in bathroom with heater for 24 hours.  The Mrs. was not happy. The problem, the red isn't as deep as on the tank because of the gray primer.  Oh well.
I'll take a pic when I put it on this weekend. Time to ride it. Hope to God it fires and runs ok as I didn't pull the carbs.

The case on this bike is painted with PJ1 from two years ago. Maybe you got a bunk can.

I used SEM rattle can primer and spraymax 2k last time. Using the same this time, except this time I'm going to use sealer before paint, not just fill primer. I think that was the issue the first time, no sealer primer.

I'm laying down the high fill primer now. Took a bit of time to prime, then use glazing putty, prime, putty, over and over. I'm hoping to block it tomorrow or Tuesday, then lay down the black base. Tape, then lay down the red and clear. The weather here has been the pits, so it's slow going. Plus, I'm taking my time with the drying process. Last time i did all pretty fast and i might have not let certain elements dry enough.

I hear ya. And that was one of the original issues. The seat pan was supposedly, ready to paint. My ass it was. There were so many imperfections in the abs, no way primer was going to fill it. And now it's worse than before. Oh well. The seat can be taken off pretty easily. I think I'll just store it inside during the hot days, and all during winter when the garage gets down to single digits.

Three years later, took cover off bike last weekend and the painted seat pan crazed. Pretty sure it's due to extreme heat and cold in my garage and the abs shrinking and expanding along with the paint. But really, this should not happen as most bikes these days have tons of abs on them. So maybe it was my prep/paint, who knows. The tank and fender are fine. Now, try and strip 2k clear, 2 base colors, primer and filler and you get a seat that looks like it went through the ringer. You can't just use aircraft stripper, or it will eat the abs. Applied three light coats of primer. Just smeared glazing putty, will have to sand that, prime, smear more. Then use high build primer, block, etc. What a frickn pain.

Yep, you showed me how a way back, hasn't done it since. But I still give her the boot, just in case.

I run the RFY 320 with the conical 7mm springs. I sent them to some guy on the interweb that had a good rep on rebuilding them. I have older konis, but like these better. I was the last person to have them upgraded, took forever to get them back, thought he ghosted me. But it was worth it.

I'm still running the ol Crane. God only knows how long that's been on this bike. For me, works great. Just need to kick the hell out of it so doesn't start in reverse.

She started right up. Smoked like a banshee, no pun intended, off I went after I let it idle for a while. I now live in an area where there are a bunch of retired folks. Guy next door has his and her Tesla's, they must love me with that bike.

Jasco, back in the day was the bees' knees. That stuff took your skin off if you were not careful, and sure as hell removed paint with ease. Now, pffffft. Two years ago, or so I stumbled across pti stripper from aircraft spruce. Ordered a bottle, opened it up and it stunk like high heaven, but doesn't have methylene chloride which was the cocktail of choice back in the day. I quickly applied it, before the epa got a hold my address, to the original paint on my 75 and it ate the paint away like magic. I just checked their site, it's still there but looks like the epa got wind as I don't think u can order it anymore.
They shipped it in a thick plastic bottle. I didn't use all of it, put it back on the shelf. Maybe a month later I look up and the damn bottle was about to explode. Bunch of numb nuts!
