Turning Wrenches / Headlight Assembly
May 10, 2023, 02:31:23 PM
Specifically the grommet/dampener and bolts that hold it to the ears. I put on some clipons (hate them but it does keep the front wheel down better) and did a stint down the hwy @ 80 for 5 miles or so. When I got around to replacing the choke lever that night I noticed the bucket just hanging there. Can I get a link to a place to purchase said parts? I'm having trouble finding them. Thank you in advance.

Turning Wrenches / Electric issue
April 02, 2022, 01:05:09 PM
My '74 350 has been having intermittent issues. Sometimes she won't start, dies at stop lights while idling, etc. Turn on key, bright neutral light. Turn on engine switch, light dims considerably. If it fires, while idling, if I hit the headlight it will kill it. Not every time but I can tell when it will from the brightness of the neutral light. It wouldn't start yesterday, today fired on first kick. Made it most of the way to work then died as I was coasting to a light. Once I got it off the road I turned the key and the N light was dim, when I turned on the engine switch barely visible. Never re-fired.

The batt was in spec (the shop said last time I was there). I bought a new one but haven't installed yet. I have to change the leads out to fit the new batt but it seems more of a charging issue.

Thoughts?

General Chatter / 73 Transmission
January 25, 2022, 11:59:46 AM
So i am selling a 75 rd250 that needs a rebuild and a 73 rd350 in bits but mostly there. The $ from selling will go to a rebuild on a 74 engine I have. Question is, I believe I only have one tranny between the 2 350 engines I have and I told the guy that's gonna make me an offer that the 350 in bits he was getting was complete. So how hard will it be for me to get another 74 rd350 tranny?

Is there anywhere I can get a Dyna ignition from where we get a discount? Is it Vintage smoke only at this point?

General Chatter / Engine rebuild
December 19, 2021, 01:14:18 PM
Anybody know of someone who can rebuild an engine for me in the southeast. I'm in central NC. I have a 75 250 that was stuck and I have  73 and 74 350 engines I want to put one of those in the top of the 250. Thoughts?

General Chatter / Mini speedo and tach
November 22, 2021, 11:35:50 AM
I'm looking for a speedo/tach for my RD. I have found some sets but the tach isn't 5:1.  I have found some separately but I want to make sure they match, (backlights and such).

General Chatter / Rear shocks
November 21, 2021, 03:01:39 PM
Looking at the pics I posted of my seat it becomes clear my rear shocks are kinda ugly. I have Hagons on my other street bikes which are a great upgrade. What are you guys using and who'd you get them through?

General Chatter / Bling

From Texavina. Seems great quality. I only had time to fondle it for a second as it was delivered right as I was leaving for work. I should get it switched over next couple days

General Chatter / Quick question
November 06, 2021, 09:31:11 AM
Morning gents. I have noticed, when warm, my RD smokes very little that I notice, if at all. When starting from cold it does but once warm, nothing. Even when I rev in neutral, off the bike, I see nothing. I checked out the pump yesterday and it's doing it's thing. Gear turning at bottom and pulsing at the top. Normal? Should I be concerned?

General Chatter / Rearset install
November 05, 2021, 09:24:24 PM
I ordered a set of rearsets from Mark @ Speed of Cheese Racing. Great piece of kit. Side note I also ordered the top yolk and tried to order the nut for the yolk but it kept saying sold out. Mark emailed me and even though I couldn't order it from the site he threw it in my already existing order free of charge. THANK YOU.

As for the installation of the rearsets it was a bit of a bigger task than expected. I had a couple questions and Mark answered very quickly. He even got back to me as he remembered stuff about the install (said it's been many years since he put them on his bikes). Very, very cool of him. Full disclosure I'm the type that will run into problems of my own making when working on my bikes so I'm sure a more seasoned wrench could have avoided a few of the pitfalls I encountered. But alas with some grinding here and cutting there I got them installed. Only to find out the KICKER LEVER WON'T CLEAR THE FOOTPEG!! Ugh. So back off they came so I can ride until I do some more projects this winter when the CB is the main mule.

I'm assuming there are offset kickers designed to go around this sort of mod or do I need to try to bend one?

Thanks again Mark!!

General Chatter / Side cover moulding
November 04, 2021, 10:00:52 AM
I got a couple black, ribbed mouldings to replace the greyed out og's on my side covers.  Just hit it with a heat gun to remove the old then double side 3m tape for the new?

General Chatter / Gas tank volume
October 25, 2021, 10:19:09 AM
So, how big is the tank on a '74. Quick search says 4.23 gal. I've also seen there were a couple sizes of tanks. A bulbous one and a thin one. Mine seems to be thin. I ask because I hit reserve on the way to work this morn (with 80 on the tripometer) and was wondering how many miles I had in reserve. I imagine it depends on the size of the tank.

General Chatter / To expansion pipe or not?
October 21, 2021, 09:39:58 AM
I recently picked up a "74 RD350. It has new top end with the work done by Chuck Quenzler in Fla. The bike runs very well in it's current form and I'm quite enjoying it. Me being me, I'm always looking for a touch more. All of my (forgive me for I have sinned) 4T's have been tweaked. Usually airbox removal, pipes, and jetting. New pipes on the injected bikes as well. So the question is, do I leave well enough alone or buy the DG pipes for sale in the classified ads currently on this site. What does that entail? Just a rejet? The bike is currently sans airbox with the 2 into 1 filter. What can be expected with the pipe addition? Let it be known this is not going to be a racer so rideability is my main concern. If it could still be smooth with the power staying around where it is now with it's decent torque curve but a little more umph and sound I'm in. Are these things possible?
