Haus of Projects / '74 RD cafe makeover
July 17, 2021, 08:18:42 PM
I have a 1974 RD350 that, besides the bars, was bone stock when I got it 10 years ago. It had 4200 miles on it when I got it. I hated the stock pipes so the first thing I did was get a set of DG pipes and start down the modification rabbit hole. After many late night phone conversations with the late, great Dave Freist, I was hooked on these wonderful machines and looked forward to tinkering on mine some more.

Just scored a complete, last ran when parked, same family owned since new, PW80 for my 8 year old. Need to replace all rubber hoses, tubes and tires, rebuild carb and petcock, new chain and sprockets and we should be good. Excited for my little dude.

My friend Scott is a motorcycle mad scientist. he has a Fat Boy, FZ01, RD200, RD350, Royal Enfield 650, Buell, Bandit 1200, Savage Rizla tribute bike, Yamaha scrambler custom build and a few dirt bikes and assorted project bikes. All but the Buell are highly customized. The dirt track bike is a WR500 open class motocross engine stuffed into a ninja 250 frame. It's gonna be a fun bike. The Virago cafe racer is thick! Huge headlight. Fat front and rear tires. Custom seat. And he built a loft for some of the bikes, including an elevator using a harbor freight wench to get up there

Last year I bought a set of used pipes that were supposed to be for my RD. Upon trying to fit them, the rear mounting tabs don't line up with my hanger points and the cans hit the rear axle bolt. I can manipulate the tabs to get them to work and to clear the crown nut, but if they're for the RZ the powerband will be too high. Any stampings or clues that I can use to tell the difference?

Turning Wrenches / No weld tank crossover options
February 11, 2020, 07:46:45 PM
So I bought a Chinese cafe racer tank for my RD350 but in haste my painter coated the inside and painted it before we discussed the crossover. So I'm in a bad spot. I can't weld on the tank. I've been looking at blind tank fittings and bulkhead fittings. The fitting would have to drop in to the rear of the tank and the nut would have to go underneath. I'm getting told to just drive it but I'm sure that won't go well, or very far. Thoughts?

About to put flatslides on my RD. Spec 2 classics. 1.9 BTDC. MZB. haven't decided on UNI's or K&N with Y boot (I have both). Heads squished and redomed. Chuck's boost bottle. TDR YZ125 reeds on modded stock cages. Looking for a starting point for my streetbike. Thanks in advance. Sooo glad this site is back up.
