General Chatter / Custom 2 stroke engine builds
March 14, 2022, 11:10:29 AM
Always intrigued by the custom builds that I have seen on Youtube. Been watching this one Vietnamese guy take engines apart and convert a single cylinder into a twin or triple. One of of my personal favorite was the four stroke engine (honda clone) into a two stroke engine.

The 4-Stroke Blasphemy Forum / XS650 Build
February 07, 2022, 10:26:44 AM
Been dealing with only 2 strokes only for years, but now I am working on my first 4 stroke bike. I needed to add a few new tools to my collections to help with my build but it has been going smoothly. Definitely a WIP but  I am hoping to have something that is reliable and solid. Also, who doesn't a kicker with electric start as well?

It's a 1981 XS650 HS2.

General Chatter / Honda Navi
February 01, 2022, 09:19:11 AM
Morning everyone,

It seems like its been ages since I've been on the forums.

Have you guys been following the new Honda Navi 110c CVT bikes that are coming (probably out now) out? I have yet to see one in person, but I am tempted to get one just for the price.

A brand new Honda engine/bike that is under 2k is quite remarkable.

Show Off / Big brother VS Little brother
September 17, 2020, 10:32:28 AM
I posted about my recent build of my 1975 RD350. It's nothing special but its an extremely meaningful bike to me. I went to my usual bike night and someone snapped a sweet photo of my bike next to a 95 Canadian RZ350. We swapped bikes and had some fun. I think mine had a slight advantage over his, but it also was running out of fuel. I am glad that I was able to test ride an RZ350, it made me realize that I don't really want to own one.

General Chatter / Pulling dents out of expansion chambers.
September 13, 2020, 11:30:07 AM
Just got another set of expansion chambers. It had a slight dent on one of them. Decided to see how people pull dents and came across this, *friendly reminder to clean out your oily pipes before proceeding*. I think I will just leave the dents

General Chatter / Two Stroke Stuffing
September 07, 2020, 07:46:49 PM
Been following this guy for years but his channel is great. Super informative and great. He's currently trying to build the fasting 50cc two stroke for Bonneville. It was cancelled this year due to the conditions but his build is great. He designed (3D printed) and did a LOST PLA casting and learned how to plate it. He had a slight hiatus due to his chronic depression and started doing the lumberjack stuff but it's still awesome. Extreme innovative guy.

Micro Muscle: Under 100cc's / MOPEDARMY
September 05, 2020, 12:23:10 AM
My first bike was a moped and I loved it. It was an old two stroke puch maxi. Much of what I know about now came from working on those simple engines. A helpful resource that i used and still use today was Moped Army (https://www.mopedarmy.com/wiki/popular/). Their forum has so much information and wiki pages to help those who need to understand timing, ring gap, chambers, and etc. I highly suggest checking out the site, information is not limited to mopeds.

Turning Wrenches / Flat spot before the powerband.
September 04, 2020, 10:47:22 PM
Hi,

I just finished my build just last month and I was looking at some feedback on some stuff. My bike currently has the following:

-1975 RD350 stock7
-HPI Ignition
-Banshee/RZ intake with crossover tube
-OKO 28mm Carbs
-Y Boot with K&N filter (3D printed adapters)
-Spec II chambers

I am currently loving these OKO 28mm carbs on my build. The throttle response is great and it has been a pretty to tune. I am currently hitting a flat spot (seems rich) around 5k-6k, but when it gets to 7k, the pipe starts to hit. I was wondering if anyone else experienced flat spot and has any suggestions? I know that the stock vm28 had the same issue but the solution was to do the dave modification with the R5 carb parts. Any input on the matter would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Haus of Projects / Shift indicator for RD350
October 20, 2019, 06:22:31 PM
Decided to try to make my own shift indicator with my 3D printer. Currently trying to design it, Wish I had my neutral switch cover handy to get the exact measurement. Created a cad file from images online. Going to put brass m2 or m3 thread inserts the holes.

If anyone has the measurements hand, let me know the LxWxH in millimeters.

Thank you.

General Chatter / Cafe fairing

Does anyone have any good recommendation/experience with putting a fairing on an RD350? Looking to give my bike a nice cafe look. Send links or inputs my way.

Not mine (I wish).

Finally had the pleasure of meeting a local guy who raced a lot back in the day, mainly RDs. Had a wealth of knowledge about Japanese bikes during the time, his collection was fun to go through...Apparently he was part of TEAM SCREAM back in the day, Chuck can you recognize the man in the video? BRAPPPP! BRAPPPPP!!!

General Chatter / 3D printed files for RD350
June 14, 2019, 07:03:02 AM
Designed some stuff with a basic cad program for my RD350, I've printed them out and test fitted them on the bike. They are not perfect, its a learning curve for me. Thought I would share with the community.

1. Intake gasket stencil
2. Base gasket stencil
3. Gearbox gasket stencil
4. A coupling fitting for UNI air filter

Turning Wrenches / Losing power to my spark
June 06, 2019, 07:51:15 PM
Just got my other RD up and running since I purchased it from a fellow. I discovered that every time I would step or squeeze on the brakes, I would lose power to the plugs and bike would eventually die. I know I need to find where its shorting out, just curious if anyone here has experienced this issue as well. From what I can understand, it's all stock.

Thanks.

Turning Wrenches / DIY: Homemade timing tool
May 05, 2019, 09:40:22 AM
Metric Dial indicator: $8-10
5/8 ID Rubber grommet: $1.50
14mm Spark Plug Fouler: $4
Indicator tip: $2-3

I had some issues making one at first with spacers and set screws, but this was the easiest and fastest way to make one that is effective.

Completed:

Turning Wrenches / Repairing tank dents

Posted this on the previous 2SW forum.

I had a really beat up tank. Sharing my progress on repairing it.

How it started off:

I purchased a blood pressure arm pump to help push out some of the dent.

Then did the rest of the pulling with a cheap puller.

Turning Wrenches / Cleaning the engine
April 07, 2019, 04:15:07 PM
Cleaning up my spare engine that I got with my RD350. There so much dirt, oil, grease, and grime all over the engine. I've used degreasers, dawn soap, simple green, purple power (conservatively). Usually what works best for me is WD-40, it lifts the stuff right off but of course you need to degrease the engine post clean up.

Just curious if there are any other suggestions that others have used to clean up a dirty old engine. :umm:
