Turning Wrenches / 1977 Yamaha IT175 Engine Cases
April 02, 2024, 01:31:54 PM
Question on a rebuild of the title bike - is it acceptable/immoral to mix engine cases (i.e. use cases from two different engines) or are they machined and intended to be used as a set? IT 175 cases are vertically split, and on mine one case side has major kickstart shaft and pocket damage. Thanks!

I have a brand new 2013 date coded Dunlop 90/90 that never went on a bike I sold. It has been sitting in the garage (no sunlight) since then, wondering your opinions on should I install this tire on my RZ or is it too old to expend the effort on? Thanks!

Turning Wrenches / RZ Oil Pump Stroke/Shims
May 06, 2020, 04:04:22 PM
Supertune Chuck walked me through some stupid questions I had on oil pumps on the old forum. I still have some questions about the oil pump on my 85 RZ350. I rebuilt the pump and it works fine as far as I know, but checking the stroke with a dial indicator at idle I get .008-.009" of stroke. The RZ manual calls for 'minimum stroke of .004-.006'. So my questions are: Is .009" way too much? More stroke=more oil injected? How do the shims affect stroke, i.e. does more shim thickness=more stroke, or other?
I know Chuck posted a method whereby you remove the cover/pump and drive the pump with a drill to get an absolute verification of oil flow, but in my laziness I was trying to avoid taking it back apart to do that. Thanks!

General Chatter / Forum Rebirth

Many thanks to M in SC for getting this going again. I was bummed when it croaked, used it a lot for my RZ/R5 projects. Did not contribute a lot but got answers to a lot of stupid questions, picked up info from searches, and bought/sold a couple things. Just glad to see it alive again.
