General Chatter / Deals gap bans vintage bikes?
April 01, 2024, 06:53:52 PM
I just saw this article.  Looks like 2 strokes are safe for now.  Anyone know anything about this?

Edit, looks like it might be April fools according to the link.

Show Off / Not this forums typical 2 stroke build
March 09, 2024, 08:03:30 PM
Little stay out of trouble project I made. Technically a 2 stroke.

I think a vintage enduro type bike may be in my future, what should I be looking for?  Short lists of wants,
- 2 stroke
- 250cc or bigger
- some sort of parts availability( at very least for an engine rebuild)
- factory street legal/title would be a plus as I will want a tag for it.
- something from the 1970s

General Chatter / TZ350 paint codes??
June 08, 2023, 06:59:41 PM
Does anyone have a paint code or something from a modern vehicle close to what an early TZ 350 would have used?

Is there a standard bolt hole diameter for 3 hole silencer mounting?  My JLs measure 40mm, I think I saw Tyga might be 44mm???.

Anyone know what the M factory west/TZ Mike silencers are?

I was wondering if anyone on here has built a set of these chambers?  I have couple of questions.

Turning Wrenches / Exhaust stud spacing?
January 14, 2023, 08:29:08 PM
Does the exhaust stud spacing differ between a 250, 350, or 400?  I noticed that some header flanges have slots, I figure something has a different spacing and the slots are so they only need one header flange.

General Chatter / CAD and dxf file experts, get in here.
December 23, 2022, 03:25:59 PM
I have some DXF files of flat layouts for a set of pipes.  I opened up the "large cone" file in autocad.  While playing around I noticed that the "ends" of the cone weren't a true radius in the flat layout and were made up of a bunch of "straight" lines as best as I could tell.

It this something that happens when the original drawing gets converted to a DXF file or would it have been drawn like this originally?

I split the cone in half using true radius as my slip roll can't handle it full length.  I printed it 1:1 on paper and can't see any difference from the true radius line and the segmented one.

I was just curious as to what was going on.

General Chatter / Looking for a bike appraisal.
November 25, 2020, 09:30:08 PM
I do not need to sell this but some things in life came up(have changed since I started it) where I may put this bike up for sale to see what happens.  We all have seen the Craigslist or eBay ad with the ridiculous price where we all say the guy is crazy and I don't want to be that guy.  So I am looking for an honest appraisal/asking price for it.

No corners were cut and it isn't 100% riddler award quality but it is very nice, probably nicer than most bikes listed out there.  List of highlights.

Engine fully rebuilt.  Crank done, stage one porting, heads cut, cases vapor blasted, upgraded clutch, pwk28 carbs, vape ignition, JL pipes.

Tx500 dual disc front end.  Aftermarket aluminum calipers and pistons, Nissin radial master cylinder, SS braided lines, new fork tubes, race tech springs, progressive shocks, excell rims and SS spokes.

Factory Tz350 tank, airtech fender and mead speed seat/tail, speedhut GPS speedo/tach.

Only real Con is bodywork is in primer/gel coat.

Haus of Projects / 1973 Rd350
September 13, 2020, 11:27:45 AM
I never intended to do a build thread on this bike so I am lacking a lot of progress pictures but since it isn't quite finished and I am chasing a few little problems I decided to put it here instead of the show off section.

1973 Rd350 that I bought for $150 off of Craigslist years ago.  It was pretty much complete but was a little crusty.  Last registration in it was 1979 and I assume that was the last time it was on the road.  I believe it sat inside most of that time but the elements still got to a lot of it.  It didn't really matter as most of it wasn't used anyways.
The pictures make it look nicer than it really was.

General Chatter / Small battery options?
September 09, 2020, 05:45:06 PM
I am running a power dynamo ignition currently with no battery.  I am also using a electronic tach/speed which is apparently not happy with the voltage coming off the regulator(not a consistent 12v) so it seems like I will be needing to add a battery.

What are some good options for a small battery?  I have looked at the antigravity lithium battery's and they would probably fit the bill.  Any experience with them?

General Chatter / Picture attachments on forum
August 27, 2020, 04:36:19 PM
Is there a way to get into the attachment to rotate it?  Photos are right side up in iPhone, I add them as an attachment and it posts sideways.

General Chatter / Source for push button
August 05, 2020, 09:48:08 AM
Anybody have a source for this push button with a black center button rather than red?  I'm pretty sure I have seen them but can't seem to find one.

Turning Wrenches / Drilling a hole in the frame?
August 01, 2020, 10:03:46 PM
Does anyone see a problem with drilling a hole in the frame around this area(might be in front of the cross tube)?  It will most likely be on the bottom and around 1/4" diameter.  I would like to run some wires from the tail light area through the frame tube and pop out around there.

Turning Wrenches / Suspension sag numbers?
May 28, 2020, 08:49:27 PM
What are some good sag numbers for the forks on a rd350.  I have a set of racetech springs in the front and need to setup the preload spacers they supplied.

I'm pretty much getting ready to wire this bike up.  What gauge wire do I need to get?  MZB ignition if it matters.  I was also wondering who's using what for fuse blocks and what do you double up in fuses if anything?

I am pretty bare bones on electrical components.  Headlight, tail light, brake light, horn, electronic speedo and no battery.

Turning Wrenches / Shorter clutch cable for clip ons?
December 15, 2019, 04:13:27 PM
Anyone have a part number or a different bike application for a shorter clutch cable to use with clip ons?  I know Mark had mentioned using one from a 250 ninja but you have to modify the block.  I'll probably go that route if I can't find a shorter stock cable.
